“museum - village recreation complex with wonderful farm yard”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

The structures in the recreated village are marvelously preserved and presented, with friendly, knowledgeable docents. The church and cemetery are touching.
The farm yard and Victorian garden are simply splendid. We've usually seen animals working during our visits; the village has some gorgeous Canadian geldings as well as the usual range of PEI farm animals and fowl.
There is a simple cafe with basic homemade food.
The museum has some very special oral histories which I highly recommend, as well as a pleasant shop with decent quality gifts.
After visiting Orwell Village, I suggest you carry on to Belfast Mills for a unique experience.

“Interesting”

If you like history, it's worth stopping in. They have an old village established with a store, blacksmith shop and post office etc. Displays are excellent. Very easy to spend a whole day there if you like that kind of thing

“Great living history lesson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2012

Came to PEI to attend to some family property and had some time left over before I left the Island, Sept is a great time to go as schoolkids are back in school and daylight weather is best, If you like to photograph lighting is amazing esp around sunset.
Orwell Corner is a small jewel of a historical park, large enought for a great morning with the kids or come back in evenings when they hold a old time hoe-down or lobster supper. They even have a strawberry ice-cream festival that is worth the drive alone.
The centre holds a one room red school, beautiful white church with a working graveyard where the locals still have plots, a general store, turn of the centery working farm with real animals and a rebuilt hall where the friendly people of PEI put on the charm and fiddle til you cant not dance or at least tap a toe.
Located on top of a hill at the head of Orwell Bay, which is a bird sanctuary so always a great place to bird watch migrate and see the sun set behind the greeniest fields outside of Ireland

“This is a gem and don't skip the video.”

We visited off season so not everything was running but the staff was friendly and helpful and the video charming. The general store was quite interesting and Shirley makes a smooth cup of Joe. Live farm animals were a nice touch.

“An interesting look at PEI's agricultural history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2011

This is one of the seven provincial museums and heritage sites operated by Museum and Heritage PEI. It’s a delightful place and we spent a very happy few hours being entertained and educated here.

The village shows what life was like in the 1890’s including the general store with the family living quarters behind and the dressmaker’s rooms upstairs. There are a blacksmith's shop, an old school house and church plus a farm with horses, pigs, rabbits, ducks and chickens and old farm machinery. There is also an old community hall where we had a simple but tasty lunch and the kids were having great fun outside making candles and playing with the water pump.

The visitor centre includes a glorious collection of old farm machinery and best of all comments made by local people - now late in life - telling what life was like in the local farms around the area.
