I wanted to visit San Marino, which does not have train service to it, so I looked for a hotel close to the country. Instead of booking a hotel in the city of Rimini and taking a bus, I decided to book close to the country. What sealed the deal for me was this under the hotel facilities, "...guests receive complimentary transportation including round-trip airport (available 24 hours) and a train pick up service...
I decided to book this hotel because it put me close to San Marino and it would save time and money getting there since they were providing transportation to their hotel. I attempted to call the hotel numerous times on the way to Rimini to advise them when I would arrive. The number provided was never answered and there was no e-mail address.
When I arrived in Rimini, After a lengthy web search, I was able to find that the true hotel number. When I contacted the hotel, they said that I could take the bus to their town and they would pick me up. When I found out that the bus had stopped service for the night, they said that they would order a taxi to come get me. A while later they called back and said that I was to get the taxi from the railroad station to the hotel.
When I arrived at the hotel, (with a €55,20 bill) they refused to reimburse me. The owner said that the number listed was not the hotel's number but her agency's. She also disavowed any knowledge of the free transportation - claiming that her agency put that on there. Though she did admit to scheduling transportation routinely for guests.
Here is the problem as I see it:
1. The hotel and/or the agency did NOT list the telephone number or e-mail for the hotel so I could notify them that I was enroute and my estimated arrival time.
2. The owner never mentioned that she would not reimburse me for the taxi, (everywhere else I have stayed that has promised transportation has always paid for it when they can not fulfill the promise. She spoke with the driver in Italian over the telephone, I assumed to make the plans on payment).
3. The owner knew how far it was from the Rimini train station to the hotel. She never warned me what it would cost. Obviously, I would NOT have paid more in a taxi than it cost for the room. If she would have told me that I was responsible for the bill and she would let me out of the contract, I would have cancelled the stay.
Otherwise, the hotel was fine and the staff friendly. Also, the free breakfast and Internet were good.
