We went to Horsley Hills this Summer June first week. We were a group of 4 families (8 adults & 9 kids) and it was a pleasurable trip. The place was extremely cold in night and pleasant in the morning.

We stayed at the APTDC Hill Resort. This probably is the only good place to stay at Horsley Hills. We took 2 cottages in wind fall @ Rs.2700 per room. The check-in at the resort was easy and very quick.

The APTDC Hill Resort is situated at a very nice location. There is a view-point behind the Governor's Bungalow from where we got a birds-eye view of the mountain range. The Resort also has a good restaurant that serves spicy yet tasty Andhra food. (Buffet for lunch & room service for dinner). The resort also has a bar, a swimming pool, a health spa and a play area for kids. The resort also offers adventure sports (predominantly rope games). Kids tried a couple of games and they had great fun.
Outside the resort exactly oppsoite to windfall cottage there is a small shed like food joint where we tried the mirchi bhajjis, dosa which was not bad.

Overall there is nothing much to do at Horsley Hills except to just relax.

We went at the peak of summer thinking it would be cold since its called the "ANDHRA OOTY" only to realize, compared to the rest of Andhra which is a complete furnace, this is lesser in peak temperatures. Felt Bangalore was colder! May not recommend.

Myself, my wife and son stayed for three nights. It was quite a pleasant stay. Make a PRIOR online booking thru APTDC. It us quite neatly kept. The food served at the APTDC restaurant is manageable. Carry some snacks and bread. You will enjoy only if you want to have a total rest and no sightseeing.

Apart from the decent weather during April and some good views, there is pretty much nothing else to do around here, which may be a good thing for some, but not for me and my family.

I was pretty much disappointed, because after reading the reviews here, I thought it would atleast be a decent weekend to spend there, but definitely came up short.

The whole place lacks class. None of the fun items mentioned in the APTDC site was there. No water in the swimming pool and hence closed!. No bungee run, no zorbing, no rappelling. The one buffet that we had was pathetically managed and while food was ok (may be too spicy for some), but handling (folks behind buffet let someone do double dipping) etc., was pretty much bad. The whole place reeks of mismanagement, which is pretty much expected of a government organization.

The play area under APTDC care, was pretty much unusable with so much of broken stuff.

The obstacle course featuring some rope hanging, ladders etc., even though sounded nice to read about, was pretty bad to experience, because of the mismanagement. ATV ride was the savior for my kid.

The forest department also manages some cottages and a very small zoo of some small animals along with a play area. These were somewhat better but not every one can stay there.

The whole place had lot of greenery, but looked very dry with no proper care being done and no body there bothers to even hear about complaints. So, in all, a classic mismanagement of a potentially nice place.

Prior selecting a place, I did some homework using Tripadvisor to check out good hill stations near Chennai. Since I have already visited quite a few of them, this time I decided to check out Horsley Hills. The reviews were satisfactory so me and my family (self, wife and two kids) decided to go to this place.

Our journey to this place up to Ranipet was satisfactory. Thereafter, it is only State highway up to the hills. Only two lanes totally and so had to slow down a bit. Journey took me almost 4 hours.

We came to the foot hills of the place and it seemed desolated. The arch welcoming people to Horsley Hills was old and corroded. The climb gave a good sight to the plains below and looked good. Upon reaching the hill top, there was this APTDC resort that I had booked in advance.

This APTDC and another nondescript structure were the only ones in the hills. The APTDC guest houses were spread over the entire hill (the hill itself can be covered by foot within 10 min in average strolling speed). So, nothing much to see on the hill by itself.

The restaurant and Bar of the APTDC was near the reception premises. The cottages were spread around. The other buildings were located within a complex housing the swimming pool (a small one with a separate children pool) and spa centre.

There was some obstacle course available in the hill and was the only way we were able to spend some quality time. There is a temple dedicated to the Lady of the Hill. Legend has it that she was brought up by elephants and cured the tribals. She disappeared as suddenly as she appeared.

It is advisable to take a room in the top floor. By nightfall, the place is windy and being on top floor will give you the advantage of enjoying it.

There is practically no place other than the APTDC restaurant. The food is also average. The room service is rather very slow and the staff uses mopeds to deliver food from the restaurant to your room. You need to call the designated person on his mobile number so as to place an order.

There are no ATMs atop the hill and so you need to CARRY ENOUGH CASH. For our family of four, we required about 2,000 including food, one set of obstacle course and sundry.

If you are planning a quiet place, then this is a good one. However, if you are planning a cool place, then there are better options and almost same travelling time from Chennai or Bangalore.

Personally, I would not recommend this place as a Hill Station.
