Owner description: The Discovery Centre is a world-class ecotourism facility nestled in the heart of the world’s oldest tropical rainforest. As the #1 Attraction in the Daintree it provides a wonderful introduction to this iconic world heritage destination. The spectacular Canopy Tower and Aerial Walkway allow visitors to explore every level of the forest and Audio Guides in 6 languages are a hit with overseas visitors. But it is it’s innovative Carbon Offset Project that is attracting attention! Part of every entry fees goes towards ‘saving the planet’ via its bio-sequestration scheme. The Discovery Centre is sustainable ecotourism at its best!

A nice Skywalk, basically not much more to see than when walking on the paved walks up cape tribulation.
They charge a lot for this and give you the idea, you would see some wildlife (animals).
Because of the noise from the crowds, of course you dont't see any.

The Daintree Rainforest is very different from the jungles of Africa or South America. While there are a lot of interesting things to see, we have very few large animals. The Discovery Centre is principally an Environmental Interpretive Centre and does not claim to be a Zoo. We do not attract the wildlife by fencing or feeding them. They can come and go as they please. However, most rainforest creatures are well camouflaged and often difficult to spot unless they are on the move. Despite your concerns about noise, they do not seem to be deterred by people, especially visitors quietly strolling along elevated boardwalks listening to personal audio guides. In fact when the Aerial Walkway was being constructed the local workmen claimed more cassowary sightings than ever before. These elusive birds can often be seen wandering along the creek in search of food. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Look I don't want to be mean, I realise this is privately run and they need to make a buck. But $32 per person is a bit steep. My advice to them would be to have 2 tiers. $32 for people who want the audio, booklet and 7 day entry, and then just $15 or $20 for people who just want to have a walk around.

Thank you for your suggestion about making the audio/booklet optional extras. This was our policy some years ago but we changed it to a ‘one up fee’ in response to customer feedback/demand.

I recently went to the daintree discovery centre with my partner and my 70 year old father. We really enjoyed the audio accompanying the tour. It is not a big park, but it is well maintained and has beautiful walk ways at all different levels of the rainforest. Yes, there are a number of free walks in the area, but they do not provide the accompanying information. If you aren't interested in essentially a rainforest museum this might not be for you, but we found the information very interesting and spent several hours exploring the Centre. My father was particularly impressed. It isn't inexpensive, but it is very well maintained and I personally felt the fee was reasonable given the quality of the exhibit.

One of the things that sets the Discovery Centre apart is that it provides easy access to all levels of the rainforest for people of all ages and abilities, including people with limited mobility and parents with prams. We are glad you enjoyed our elevated boardwalks, as well as the wealth of interpretive information available; in the spacious Display Centre, 23 metre high Canopy Tower, Aerial Walkway, your personal Audio Guide and complimentary 48 page Guide Book. Thanks for sharing your experience with others.

We visited this attraction 17/06/2014. From the moment we walked in the door we felt that this was going to be a great experience by the way the staff greeted us and advised us what we could see. After the self conducted tour we were again greeted by enthusiastic staff willing to offer more information. Overall we could not have experienced a better outing.

Really was not sure about this given there are only two attractions listed for Cow Bay - and its not cheap - but it is a brilliant set-up. If you wanted to listen to every recording - then you would be there for hours and afterwards would be extremely knowledgeable about so much - fauna and flora. Generous touch to give people free 7 day access after first visit - as it is worth a second visit to understand and absorb more. We will be going back for another visit. The diagrams in the information centre are very simple and easy to follow - interesting to look at the different types of rainforest in Australia and how they differ. Setting up and maintaining this Centre is a huge financial investment - I hope they can continue to keep the Centre going as it is really brilliant....and all the staff are lovely!

Thank you for taking the time to make positive remarks about so many things – particularly the huge investment the owners, Pam and Ron Birkett have made in setting up and maintaining this award winning environmental facility. The fact that the Discovery Centre is privately funded and doesn't rely on Government monies was one of the things that got a special mention when they won the United Nations Environment Award for Sustainability Leadership in Sydney on Friday night.
