“Enchanting Forest Sanctuary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2013

We had the great pleasure of sharing Marion's rainforest retreat for six days during October. What a delightful, natural and ecologically diverse base from which discover Cow Bay and its treasures!

Marion has created and nurtured this haven over a number of years with her husband Brian. It has evidently been a labour of love despite the many natural challenges that the rainforest can present. It is hidden away from the road and lovingly unfolds its beauty and quirkiness the nearer you approach.

Marion is a one off ! She is kind, delightfully engaging, funny, has lived one hell of a life and cooks a killer breakfast. She floats through the property like a sylvan sprite. I had the privilege of practising Pilates early each morning on the decking to the orchestrated sounds of exotic fauna and the heady scents of the flora. Marion discreetly arrived to practise her culinary alchemy in the kitchen and to open up the house amidst the call of the birds.

I particularly enjoyed the languid breakfasts and conversations with Marion and the other guests. It is a great skill to bring people together and Marion is well practised in the art of hospitality and bonhomie; it is not forced and completely natural. She also has a great love of the environment and is still discovering the native species of birds after all these years.

Cow Bay was a joy to behold. The immediate area was quiet, almost tourist free and we practically had one of the three beaches entirely to ourselves. One could just imagine being on a desert island - sheer bliss ! It was an idyllic location to discover and explore the wonders of the rainforest.

The Hobbit and Robinson Crusoe would have approved in equal measure....and I would return in a heartbeat. Thank you, Marion.

I just had the most divine stay at Cow Bay Homestay. Marion could not have been more helpful or welcoming, she is just so enthusiastic and gave me great information about everything nearby. I was at an advantage as I had already spent a week in the area, but she still gave me some good tips.

Breakfast was lovely and delicious - including papaya and mango from the garden! I had the place to myself, and enjoyed the lovely open house, lying on the day bed and the hammock and enjoying the garden. So peaceful. No air-conditioning, but you don't need it.

Can't say enough nice things about it, would love to come back with my partner next time.

If you're looking for a place to escape the city life and crowd then Cow Bay is the place to be. There's no mobile phone signal so there's no way for the office to disturb your holiday! No FB, emails, sms, twitter = no distractions. We felt released from the clasps of technology...not needing to check the phone in case we missed a call, etc. It was enlightening to say the least....

If there's one word to describe Cow Bay Homestay, it would be ~ bliss. We were awed by the open concept of the house. Nature and home joined into one. There were plants placed throughout the house which was a really lovely touch. Loved the open balcony.

Bedroom was very clean & simple. A tad bit tight for us....maybe because we're used to our larger bedroom back home. It would have been excellent if there was a wardrobe or wall hangers to hang/air our clothes. We had to literally live out of our suitcase. There wasn't room for 2 large suitcases so we transferred some essentials into 1 suitcase and left the rest in the car.

Other than that everything else was brilliant. Marion made reservations for us to go horse riding and sunrise kayaking which I really must recommend. We made reservations for the Jungle Night Walk too but unfortunately it didn't work out, twice, as the guide was unwell. We do hope he's better now...we were told he's an excellent guide.

We will definitely plan another trip down...thanks Marion!

This beautifully located B&B is a wonderful place to come and relax, with two guests bedrooms sharing an annex with communal day lounge and rear decking to the garden. It is only 15 mins walk to Cow Bay, the best beach on the Cape Trib coast. The host Marrion is lovely and takes great care of you offering good breakfasts with local exotic fruit, museli, jams and a preordered cooked breakfast as well.

Our family of 5 - 2 adults & 3 children (aged 13,11 & 8) spent a wonderful 3 nights at Cow Bay Homestay.

I booked directly with Marion and she provided us with accurate information before arrival. She welcomed us to her property and gave us a thorough run down of the area and made some very good recommendations, including booking us on a fantastic reef trip with Ocean Safari.

The house with two bedrooms & two bathrooms is clean, spacious open plan and surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden. There are plenty of spots to lounge around feel like you are outdoors & the kids loved the hammock. There was a TV which was important for finals football. Marion would visit each morning at the time we requested and make us a delicious breakfast. Great homemade bread. Marion is a wonderful & interesting host.

The kids also had the freedom to swim in the property’s creek, which was moments from the house.

Cow Bay beach was a 15 minute walk one way.

We stayed at Cow Bay Homestay for 4 nights and just loved it. Host Marion was fantastic in the lead up to our visit and while we were there; she welcomed us with warmth, was a wealth of information and made great recommendations about things to do in FNQ. She was very accommodating and put on a lovely breakfast of cereal, fresh fruit, toast and home made juice each morning – yum!

The accommodation itself was fantastic, with lots of different areas to sit, read and spend time in – unlike other B&Bs we didn’t feel confined to our bedroom, but made ourselves completely at home in the rest of the house, which is beautiful, open plan, spacious, set in gorgeous gardens and shared with only one other set of guests.

We could easily have stayed longer as there is so much to do from Cow Bay and north to Cape Tribulation. The whole area is a slice of natural paradise. Thankyou Marion, we had a great time and will see you in the future for sure!

Our decision to visit Cow Bay Homestay was prompted as much by price as it was by location. It is fair to stay that we were staggered to arrive and find what a beautiful place we had chosen, and what value-for-money we were getting. But the really memorable part was coming home two days later, feeling as refreshed and energised as if we had just emerged from a week-long retreat. Marion not only looks after her facilities and her guests like they are made of gold, she does a breakfast that is really worth waking up for.
