“Well equipped, attractive, amazing views”
Reviewed 10 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Three of us stayed for 10 days and would happily go again. The house is in a very quiet location on the edge of a (dull but harmless) suburb of Foix. It backs onto a mountain with walks of any length you choose from the door. It has thick stone walls and stays cool; there is a small garden with stupendous views across and up the valley. We often ate outside.

The house is particularly well equipped with real thought put into what would be useful. One disadvantage is that there is no shop in reasonable walking distance (8 minutes' drive to a convenience store); another was that the ceilings were just the floorboards of the room above so everything was audible - but no problem for a small number of people. The main advantages for us were the peaceful location and the views.

“An ideal base to explore”
Reviewed 4 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

A generously equipped and very comfortable property in a quiet suburb of Foix. We found this an ideal base for exploring the area, travelling as far as Andorra which is about 1.5 hours away by car. The chateau at Foix is well worth a visit, as is the Cathar stronghold Montsegur (less than half an hour), if you are fit for a short, steep ascent. Ax-les-Thermes with its hot thermal springs is also nearby and the mediaeval town of Mirepoix is also worth a visit. We visited in summer, but there are many skiing opportunities nearby for winter visitors.

“A very pleasant stay in a nice environment!”

A small house but big enough for two people. We had a very pleasant stay in La Maison Rêver. When the weather is fine, you can relax in the little garden where you have a beautiful view of the Pyrenees.
And when it is too hot outside, the thick walls of the house guarantee that it is prettig cool inside. The house is fully equipped with everything needed for a nice holiday.
Foix is a nice little town with some very good restaurants and in the environment are much places worth a visit.

“Peaceful escape from the rat race!”
Reviewed 15 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We really enjoyed our second stay, warm and cosy with the log burner, beautiful views across the valley to the Pyrenees. Only an hour from Carcasonne beautiful old city. Foix itself has it own castle and very pretty town. Andorra only a short distance so there is plenty to see and do. We will certainly stay again at this fantasic property.

“Value for Money - Fantastic Location”

You can pay a lot more for a lot less. Accommodation suited us (wife and kids 11 & 13) to the ground with a practical kitchen so that we could enjoy fresh local produce. We all enjoyed our cosy evenings or early mornings reading books, playing games and eating freshly caught trout. Outdoors is hard to put into words - whoever coined the phrase blue and green should not be seen - never sat under a clear blue sky looking up at the lush mountains of the midi-pyrenees after a 13km canoe trip down the Ariege just about to tuck into a Gesiers de Canards Confit salad. So much to see and do and this our second visit to the Ariege in 2 years, and we will be back.

Management Response
3 Jan 2014
Dear Pat,
Thank you for your review and feedback which we always treat as important and valuable to us. Our house is not just a business for us as we treat La Maison Rever as our personal second home. You are right that these old properties do need opening up and take a time to both air and warm up. The damp issue is now resolved, and wasn't a major issue but just the walls absorbing moisture which then needing to be warmed up and lived in. I am sorry to hear that you found La Maison Rever cold as we usually receive positive feedback about how cooling the house is when it's been hot and sunny outside. We installed a wood burning stove and always have a ready supply of wood for guests to use, whatever season it is.
The weather had been very wet for prolonged periods before your trip, followed by a hot and sunny few weeks which made the garden grow rapidly. Following your feedback ,we have resolved this matter going forward by increasing the amount of gardening hours completed by our house keepers.
The guest information/instructions has now been updated and clearly clarified for the use of the boiler and central heating system and I think the issue you had was due to a previous guest damaging the thermostat dial on the boiler. We wish you had contacted us at the beginning of your stay so that we could have resolved this, and your other concerns, immediately.
As for the local cats, I am pleased to tell you that most of them have left as we have had a change of neighbours. Our previous guests at La Maison Rever have informed us that their children had befriended the cats, therefore as a result of your feedback we have updated our guest information details to advise all guests that the cats are not to be encouraged to enter our property.
I would like to thank you again for your valuable feedback and we hope to welcome you back to the Ariege in the future.
Kindest regards,
Pete and Sasha
