We've had a bit of experience with budget hotel chains in france now, after several years doing the calais-med hike and the obligatory stopover. The b&b chain all seem to look considerably more inviting than many of the others (etaps often look like portacabins glued together, for instance!) and from the outside this place looks really quite smart. As others have said, it's fairly convenient for the main roads, too - although we did get a bit lost on the way in and Evreux is a strange place, the area near the hotel is miles of high rise social housing surrounding the biggest Lycee i've ever seen, designed in the style of a stalinist prison.

We'd booked (and had confirmed on our reservation printout) a king bed, non smoking room. The king bed thing was a massive plus as my partner is tall and we don't sleep well in a normal double. When we arrived at the room, it was obvious that it had been smoked in quite a bit, we should've gone straight back to reception and asked to move, but we were knackered from the day's driving and decided we'd live with it- there's nobody at reception overnight in these places anyway so we'd have had to run straight back there as they were about to go off duty.

Rest of the room was OK though - bathroom above average for budget places, with a good shower and nice fittings. More than one towel between us would've been nice.

However the king bed was definitely there (along with the only one almost flat pillow each which again seem to be standard in most french hotels. next year i'm bringing my own in the car...) so we went off to the Courtepaille (basically a Harvester, but just across the way) expecting a good night's sleep.

Not so - when we got into the bed later, it was absolutely the hardest bed i have experienced in my entire life. It felt like a plank with an inch of futon padding on the top. Neither of us could get to sleep - if i turned on my side, i got a dead arm in minutes. That was when the smoky smell really started to bother me too.

So, i won't be going to a B&B again - we're only using them for a few hours of unconsciousness on the drive, and as we didn't manage much of that, I won't be back.

This hotel is very clean, comfortable and ideal when travelling.
We found it to be quiet and breakfast was extremely good - even offering bacon and scrambled eggs!
No bar but there is a restaurant next door. There were also machines to purchase food to use in a microwave which was provided for anyone`s use.
One reason for choosing this B&B was the fact that the website stated secure parking but that wasn`t the case at all when we were there! We asked if the gates would be closed and locked but the receptionist told us that they were always left open!
Anyway, we had a safe, quiet and relaxing stay and would go again.
Forgot to mention that, although there is a bar near, you cannot buy a drink unless you order food at the same time.

Arrived in Evreux from Southern France for overnight stop - chain hotels not easy to find and the Premiere Classe looked grim, the Campanile expensive (for what it is). So we were lucky to find the B&B, an excellent example of its kind and with a friendly Courtepaille restaurant next door. A happy end to the holiday - thank goodness we didn't opt for the Premiere Classe!

New B&B hotel with well fitted rooms & secure carpark. Great value breakfast. Courtepaille to eat dinner at next door , only 50 m away (15% discount for B&B guests). Overall a great place to stop off if travelling. Close to the main roads & only a short drive from the city centre

This newly built hotel, part of the "B&B Hotels" group, and is somewhat typical of their value driven approach. Located less than 3hrs drive from Calais, this would make an ideal stopover for those heading south and wanting to avoid the, sometimes heavy, Paris traffic.

Rooms are clean and comfortable with a nice powerful shower in the bathroom. Reception staff are not there 24hrs, but the automated check-in is simple to use. Like their other hotels there are no restaurant facilities, but vending machines in reception offer a range of snacks and drinks. A ‘Courtpaille’ restaurant is 50m away. Wireless internet is available free of charge in the public areas, but not the rooms.
