This hotel has two personalities. During the day it is peaceful and laid back. At night it becomes the place to go for the local and not so local natives. There are other places to go out in Tikkurila, but this is the daddy. The beer and snaps flow and suddenly the shy, reserved Finns transform into sociable party goers. Go to the karaoke bar and watch in awe as the Finnish Elvis is followed by the Finnish Kate Bush and the Finnish Bon Jovi. Wannabe after wannabe get up and sing for you. It's taken very seriously and quite a few can sing fairly well. There is no hint of pride, shyness or embarrassment as they take their seats afterwards. No hint of anything in fact. It's a joy to watch and worth the overnight hotel price alone. Join in the spirit (literally), learn all of the different types of snaps and meet the locals.
Now the serious part: I've stayed in this place twice, for business and pleasure. The location is good if you want to be near the airport, with good road and rail links to Helsinki. The train station is outside. The food, service and rooms are average. There are a few nightclubs and a casino, plus saunas that you can use in the evening. There are some quirks: The room had a mezzanine bunk but no ladder to get up there. The bed was a king size, yet the sheets seemed smaller and overlapped each other. Noise from the more lively parts of the hotel can be an issue, but it is a large hotel - just ask for a quiet room.
As a hotel, it is average. As a cultural experience, it's ace!
