“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

The lakeside setting with beautiful views over Lake Orta overrides and helps to overcome this hotel's shortcomings. As other reviewers have already said you MUST get a room with a lake view. Lake Orta is tranquil and beautiful with constantly changing moods and colours. You could sit and look at it's beauty all day!

The staff are lovely! Obviously a family run hotel the staff like to look after their guests. A little cliquey at times when obviously regular guests were gushed over in favour of quieter less known guests. Good for business definitely but made one or two guests feel a little uncomfortable at times. That said, this is what makes this hotel what it is. Family friendly but couples too - old and young.

Food - excellent and served either indoors or al fresco in what has to be one of the most beautiful restaurants ever. All seats with that fabulous view!!! Good buffet breakfast, good variety if choice. Relaxed atmosphere. Service for all meals breakfast, lunch and diner was very very good from very hard working staff who put in very long hours.

While we were staying we had the most violent storm during the night and the following day the pool was wrecked - full of debris washed down from the hillside and road. It looked disgusting! In 2 days it had been drained, cleaned and restored to its pristine best. A testament again to their dedication and hard work!

The down side was the room. Clean, air conditioned and a very comfortable bed. However, the bathroom needs up grading - especially the shower. This was an old fashioned hand help shower head which could be lodged in a holder. The water pressure was very poor and on our last day virtually non existant! Also there are sound proofing issues. We were in 149 which had a door to the adjoining room - locked of course, but every sound could be heard from next door and no doubt visa versa! Not good!

Overall I would recommend the hotel and would return.

We booked this hotel after looking into the various options with private parking, elevator, lake view and air-conditioning and after having read different positive reviews. The hotel is actually located on the lakeside (Lago Orta) so when you book a lakeside room you’re actually on the lake.
Important to know is that communication (for reservations) can be done in fluent English and French, at reception and in the restaurant everybody speaks fluent English , some members of the staff manage in French or German. This is an important asset as 50% of the guests are Brit and 40% German. The hotel a swimming pool, and direct access to the lake (private stop of the public boat and location of boats possible )where is it secure to swim if you don’t mind the ducks and fish welcoming you.
We booked a superior lakeside room for € 155 breakfast included. This is pretty expensive but after having compared in the area, we can confirm it’s worth it. The room is very spacious with a big comfy bed, a desk, a table with chairs, lot of storage room, flatscreen with over a hundred channels ( Italian, German, English, French), fridge to use as you wish and a beautiful large balcony . The bathroom is huge with shower/ hydro massage bath and separated large toilet. The AC works well.
Some small points of improvement: the tv is very small considering the distance and the AC makes a lot of noise but works perfectly. The breakfast is very elaborated considering you’re in Italy, no hot dishes but besides that everything you can wish for and spectacular views on the lake from the breakfast room and the terraces.
Highlight of this hotel is certainly the food offered in halfboard, only few guests seemed to take this, the others really don’t know what they miss. For € 27 you get the menu that has the value of € 44 for exterior guests and you have antipasto, primo secundo and dolce with choices between meat, fish and veggie. The quality is outstanding as is the service! Also in the restaurant you get spectacular views on the lake. The house has a 50 pages wine list with besides all Italian regions a lot of French and German wines, at affordable prices.
Conclusion: a must have been! Thank you for this wonderful and “delicious” stay!

My wife and I stayed for a few nights at this delightful hotel in late June. Although the weather was unseasonably wet, we really enjoyed ourselves. A lady who had been a regular visitor for many years, could not remember a time when it rained so much. Nevertheless the wonderful location on this beautiful lake, the very friendly and attentive staff, the excellent food and wine and the peaceful ambience, all made for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Dinner on the terrace was a divine experience with Ezio, the son in the Primatesta family, looking after our every need - he recommended some very acceptable local wines
Like others, I recommend asking and paying for a room with a lake view and a balcony.
We will definitely return - hopefully when the skies are blue and clear.

Room Tip: Lake view with a balcony.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in June. The room and balcony were huge and the view was lovely of the lake. This is a very quiet hotel and relaxing, don't expect disco's and bingo, you won't find it here but what you will find is very friendly and obliging staff from the Reception to the Dining rooms and the bar, even the cleaners were nice and friendly, and even the family who own the hotel were about a lot being friendly and making sure everything was alright for everybody. It was lovely on the sun beds on the decking in front of the lake, and if you want to you can swim in the lake. I would say the whole area is lovely, we had our car with us so it was easier to get around but there is a boat comes to the hotel and for a few pounds it takes you to the local town and a few other places. Some might prefer the bigger touristy lakes but not us, this was perfect.

Room Tip: There is an old part of the hotel and a new, we were in the old part in room 120 on the second floor...

We love this hotel. The location is wonderful and the restaurant good. Unfortunately because we booked very last minute we had a room on the third floor with not such a good balcony, but still a lake view . They welcomed our well behaved dog and we all swam in the lake. Orta is a lovely town some 6 Kms away. Also there are nice walks from the hotel around the lake and in the hills. There are one or two other restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for and pay a bit more for a lake view.

We have been to this hotel many times and will doubtless return many more times. The lakeside location is stunning and the rooms overlooking the lake are beautiful but, best of all, is the attention provided by the Primatesta family. Caterina and her husband Oreste are wonderful hosts. Now Ezio, who we knew as a child (!), is taking over the running of the hotel and is doing a fantastic job. He is also a highly qualified sommelier and always willing to advise on the right wine from the hotel's extensive cellar to go with your meal. We tend to take the half-board option as the quality of the 4-course dinner is unbeatable for a relatively modest addition to the basic room price. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms with a lakeside view in the newer part of the hotel are quieter (and the view is spectacular)

we spent a weekend at the orta lake, we did not reserve anything in advance, Giardinetto had still some free rooms. We had a lovely room to the seaside, absolutely quite, clean nice rooms, bathroom small but absolutely clean. Nice restaurant with friendly service and good meals. Prices absolutely ok, as the hotel price in total. Excellent for a lovely weekend away from the mass tourism.
