The northern lights observatory on Haldde was the first observatory on the Northern Light. The buildings which are restored, show the life of those who lived and studied the northern lights there.
The view from the highest peak in Alta shows a magnificient view, and is an excellent spot to watch the northern lights during winter. Its also a nice scenic view of the mountains and fjords around.

The observatory is a inacessible for drive, and its a 2 hours walk from the road, which is 10 minutes drive from Alta.
The trip can be combined with a visit to the remains of the first industrial copper works in Scandinavia, which is located nearby
