Description: The restaurant Laksestua (salmon hut) has always been well known for its special architecture, assembling the shape of a Sami lavvo and its pleasant atmosphere. Sorrisniva is in the middle of nature’s larder: the river, the fjord and the plateau offer excellent raw materials for the Chef to turn into delicious dishes. The kitchen follows the food calendar, ensuring the guest have meals appropriate to the season they are in at all time. The restaurant has become one of Finnmark`s best, and our chef Johnny Trasti was rewarded «best chef of the year 2009» in Norway. The restaurant is open for larger groups throghout the year and for a la carte from January to April.

We were staying in the ice hotel next door and a two course dinner was included in the price of our dinner.

The ladies are very attentive - we ordered our dinner and ate right on 6pm when the restaurant opened. You can order drinks before then a beer costs about £9. The meal would cost around £55-60 without drinks.

The meal consisting of three little starters, yummy bread basket and home made butters. The mains were cooked well; we had elk & haddock. One of us thought the elk was too rare. The desert we had the cranberries three ways & chocolate moose & the pan cakes.

The plates are not large-American sized portions so eat more bread if you are expecting this!

“Nice to visit but impossible to sleep over”

Friendly helpful staff . Interesting design. Movie like corridors - dramatic. The facilities are outside in practical wooden cabins . But the furs notwithstanding, it would be more of an ordeal, an endurance test to spend the night even in the Bridal suite

WOW! Very Impressive, did not stay the night, but took the tour. Oh my gosh apart from the amazing sculptures and carvings the staff are so, so friendly, informative and helpful, the owners should be proud of the way that they represent their company

“Truly magnificent!”

The are two good reasons to visit Sorrisniva. The Icehotel with all it's sculptures, the chapel and the bar is just amazing. If you have the chance to spend the night I would absolutly do so. The other reason, and this is around the whole year, is the fantastic food. We had dinner with three courses and got two additional appetizers. The taste and presentation was just fantastic. I started with grilled brest of grouse, then panfried cod and finished off with a chocolate mousse tart with chocolate ice cream, cloudberrys and citrus. It is one of the best meals I have had in Norway, and I can not remember to have had cod prepared in a better way. It was fresh out of the cold sea a few miles further north and fried to perfection. Our vaiter was also very attentive, polite and pleasent. He was also very knowledgeable about the place and it's history. At the end of the meal the chef personally came out and asked the guests about the meal. I don't often experience that.
This place has my highest recommendations.
