“Nice view - poor cleaning!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2011

Hotel Maritim in Haugesund might be a very nice hotel – or a very disappointing one, be sure to get the right room!
Double rooms overlooking the waterfront and with balconies – nice rooms! Single rooms at the back looked like a dump – after staying twice in a double room, I was shocked of the worn out feeling of the single rooms, and the view – really depressing!! Asked to be rebooked to a double room and paid the extra money for it.
Double room has good beds with good sleeping comfort. But even these “good rooms” are starting to look a bit tired. And the cleaning is lacking attention. As the pictures shows, there are lots of dust and I do not know what is living in the little gap …. Maybe a big fat spider? And when opening the cupboard an empty bottle of cognac fell out, it was put behind the extra pillow....
The breakfast is very good! Lots of options and healthy ones too.
If you make sure you get the right room, and the hotel make sure they clean it properly – this is a nice hotel with a good location.

Room Tip: Be sure NOT to have a single room at the back of the hotel - they look 20 years old!!

My hotel when I'm staying in Haugesund, but it is popular hotel, so don't expect to get a room if you book a week before traveling.
Yes they have smoking rooms, very nice breakfast (Rica quality )
pay for a spurior room, and you will get the little extra for the stay regaring room view and location.
PS: Some of the smoking rooms has not been cleaned for a while.
Try it, you will not be disappointed, trust me

The location of this hotel couldn't be better, snuggled nicely against the waterfront. There are some very innovative designs that maximise the use of light and water. I had the impression though, that the staff are struggling - either they are under resourced or working inefficiently, or both. My room was very small - in fact there was nowhere to put my large case so it had to be squeezed onto a chair. The balcony was ok, small but practical. However, this was Haugesund in October so not having an interest in gale force wind and horizontal rain, I didn't venture out. My key card didn't work on the second day so I had to traipse back to reception, only to be told that I must have had it near a mobile 'phone. I had not, but don't you just love to be told that a hotel inadequacy is your fault?! I only ate in the restaurant at lunch time - it was incredibly busy and one had to wait for food replenishment at the buffet. All in all, a very average experience.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first.

Loved this hotel. OK the rooms are pretty small, but wow - what a view! Lovely balcony overlooking the river, and VERY comfortable beds. Room was quiet, clean, and just the right temperature. Breakfast was more than excellent. Great choice of hot and cold food.Staff were friendly, though I didn't see much of them as was stuck in conference all day. Excellent stay in Haugesund, wish I could have stayed longer.

Rica Maritim is located near sea (almost like a river running through the city) and at the same time in city centre. Couldn't be better.

The hotel is clean and nice, and it seemed to be an excellent conference hotel.

The staff is not extremely friendly, and could very well smile a little more. When asking for a late check out Sunday (asked for 3 pm), the receptionist told me that 3 pm would probably be OK, but wanted me to ask again the morning after (Sunday morning). The morning after we were told that we had to check out at 1 pm. This was not the biggest deal, but we found it strange that they didn't have a normal procedure for this. Most hotels I have stayed at lately have late check out Sunday as a normal thing.

We were in a wedding at the hotel on Saturday evening, and could therefore enjoy a 3 course dinner. Even though the food was good, it was a bit dissapointing. Fish soup was nothing special, duck breast lacked vegetables and tiramisu was made with normal whipped cream. I'm quite sure both Marsala and mascarpone were missing.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view to water, also are the one with most noice from piano bar

This hotel is a nice hotel - with newly renovated rooms. Try to get rooms with seaview.
Chek in go very easy and quickly.
There are usually some problems with key and door locks,so one should set aside some time each day to go up and down to the Reception to enable the keys to open the door to your room.
This problem they have had for years, but in the end one just have to smile and ask oneself - How difficult can this be !
Restaurant - not recommended - use the outside Restuarants in the City of Haugesund.
Breakfast is very good in this hotel!

I stayed two nights in this hotel for a business seminar. Having had fairly high expectations for this well known hotel, I was rather disappointed.
The location is great alongside the Smedasundet channel and the reception at the counter was very good. The hotel also looks good from the outside.
The let-down starts in the halls leading to the rooms. The carpets are worn and you get the feeling of an institution. Then there was the room; it seems they have not done much since the early 80's. My room was outfitted with two small beds and two chairs and a table thrown into a corner. Colours and furntiure are distasteful. Also my shower did not work properly.
I am sure they have better rooms than the one I had in the back of the 3rd floort, but mine was a 'superior' and you would expect a little more for the price.
There are very few amenities in the hotel and the food was not great.
The Rica Hotel chain claims this hotel is one of Norway's finest. Well, it is not.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a sea view.
