As one travels around Rogaland in Norway there are really quite a number of signposts alerting the driver to ancient remains of varying types. Coming from UK as I do, and having visited most of the major ancient historical sites, I have been consistently disappointed when stopping to look at such places in Rogaland. Sola Ruinkyrka is no exception. There is really no point in visiting it. Other historical sites in the area are similarly disappointing - recently re-erected knee-high stone circles, or most often signs that just lead you up a dead end track that peters out into nothing with no site at all to find. Having spent a day touring around visiting such places I can only recommend that you don't bother. A far better outdoor activity is to seek out the various hill and beach walks available in the area, an obvious and popular example being Dalsnuten.
