Amble Gård is a large farm in Kaupanger (about 11 km from Sogndal), ideally situated near Sognefjord. About 5 or 6 houses can be rented. Some are quite new, Kårhuset, the largest one (sleeps 12 people, 3 bathrooms, 4 toilets...), is an old traditional Norvegian family house. The property is owned by the Heiberg family since 1690 (!)... a long tradition! The houses are very spacious, spotlessly clean on arrival, and all have a splendid view over the Sogne fjord. Beds are very comfortable, and the environment is so quiet that you will sleep too long if you don't set an alarm clock. Service by the present owners (Mette Heiberg and her husband Anders Bjærke is faultless and very friendly and hospitable. The nearest shop (supermarket) is situated in Kaupanger at about 5 km, larger (and more) shops, restaurants and services are available in Sogndal, at a distance of about 15 km. Bear in mind that a car is a must on such a location. Firewood for heating is free, and fishing amateurs can either fish very successfully in the fjord (boat with or without motor available) and also in a pond on a property owned by the Heiberg family at about 20 km from Amble Gård (trout fishing). The geographical situation is ideal for trips in the region: good roads in northern, western and eastern direction, and the ferry from Mannheller to Fodnes is at less than 10 km from Amble Gård, and it sails every 20'; a very convenient gateway to the south. Numerous hiking possibilities are available in the region. Splendid place to have very relaxing holidays !

We stayed in Prestestova. The farm is in a beautiful location and there are great views from the patio and living room. There are lots of mountain hikes leaving from the farm. It's a convenient location for driving around the region and there's a grocery store a short drive away. The shop on the farm is great for getting eggs, venison, cider, and jam. We travelled in early May and had great weather, there was still snow at higher elevations but around the farm it was very springlike. Some attractions aren't open that time of year, but there aren't many crowds.

We had a wonderful holiday at Amblegaard in August. Our family - aged 17 upwards - stayed in the largest house, Karhuset. It was in a fabulous position overlooking the fjord and had masses of room for everyone. We loved everything about the holiday and spent most of our time trying to catch fish or walking in the mountains. It was a great asset to have the use of the boats on the fjord and to be able to use the cabin on their lake. It was our first trip to Norway but I think will be the first of many. Thank you for making us welcome and for sharing your farm.

Good, clean and big house. Friendly people.Nice view. The house is equipped with all necessary stuff. At the farm you can get fresh eggs and home made apple juicy and other home made food. 4 minute drive to the ferry to Gudvangen (twice a day).

Had three wonderful days at Amblegaard. Our rental house was lovely, with great views of the fjord. The house was spacious and had a nice working kitchen. It was clean upon arrival, and we were also happy that it had a washing machine so we could do laundry.

It was a real treat to spend each breakfast outside at the adorable picnic table. We took full advantage of the fresh juice and eggs available for purchase in their farm store.

The property itself is in a stunning place, quiet and beautiful. It’s a great place to relax, and also a great base for exploring the nearby fjords, mountain passes, and quaint towns.

A few notes of improvement… it would have been helpful to get a tour of house upon arrival. However, the owners were available when we had questions. It also would have been nice to get more than 1 towel per person, if only because the towels were a bit worn. You have to go to the bench or barn to use the internet, and it would have been great to have it available at the house. Also, the upstairs bathroom window didn’t have a shade. Not a big deal, but you can see where other guests' cars are parked, which means they can see you. In addition, the owners asked us to pay in advance with a wire transfer. That involved an extra fee on our end, which I would have liked to avoid.

Overall, Amblegaard was the perfect home base in Kaupanger. And their apple juice is really good.
