Had a wonderful stay at this hotel just a couple of days back. Great check in with a award winning smile.
I had a single room as i was travelling just by myself. Room was heated with single bed, Clean, tidy, bedroom with telly, roomservice, the shower was great but small. Bedroom view looked onto the snow dusted mountain as this was early summer hence snow .. Nice coffee shop, nice hotel..just by railway station.

Stayed here for only one night, but it was problematic.
We arrived at the train station with our bags. We had been told that someone would be there to meet us and take us to the hotel, but there was no one there. We waited around until everyone had left, and then didn't know what to do and went to ask the lady who worked at the train desk. She offered to call the hotel for us, which she did multiple times, but there was no answer. She thought that was strange.

She told us the hotel was very close and we could leave our suitcases and walk up to it, which we did. It was 12:30, and we were told our room wouldn't be ready until 3PM.

The room was small and old. Not awful, but certainly nothing great.

Everything was very expensive. Room, food, bowling, etc. The restaurant only had one dinner choice available. Breakfast was fine.

Nothing much to do in the town unless you're skiing. Otherwise you might as well just stay in the hotel.

We talked to the desk about checking out the next day, and we were told to be downstairs by 11AM and the van would take us and our suitcases to the train station for our 11:30 train.

We were downstairs at 11 and there was no van.

We asked the desk and were told they would call and he would come.

11:10 and still no van.

Asked a different person at the desk again and were told he was coming.

11:20 and still nothing. So we walked to the train station so we wouldn't miss our train.

I wouldn't mind walking so much if we hadn't been told otherwise so we could plan accordingly.

It seems the entire hotel is run by 19 year olds. I didn't see a single adult working there. Maybe that's why the service is lacking.

Asa family we are big fans of the hotel and the resort, this trip must be about number 15. The hotel has a style of its' own, our rooms were very comfortable and the food was excellent. While we were there this time there was a big conference on which worked to our advantage, the pool, spa and gym facilities were virtually empty, the breakfast service was excellent as the conference had already started. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, our only small moan was that they forgot to pick us up from the station as agreed, apart from that 10 out of 10!

Room Tip: The further from the stairwells the better for a quiet room

Just finished a week snowboarding in Geilo; we were based at the Dr. Holms hotel. It's a little old and could do with a lick of paint but make no mistake it's a first rate hotel. Fantastic setting, beautiful building and the staff are extremely friendly.

It's not quite ski-in, ski-out (as it claimed) but the reality is that the bottom of Slaata (from where you can access the entire side of the valley) is only a 2 minute walk away; so almost ski-in ski out!

There are a couple of bars where you can enjoy some 'apres-ski' and there is a very nice spa where you can go and soak away your aches and pains. There really is no reason not to enjoy a skiing / snowboarding holiday here.

We stayed at Dr Holms for a week. No pension (exc breakfast), which is important as i'll explain.

First: The Hotel. An amazing piece of art, if you like mountain hotels. You'll find everything you like: fire places, a fantastic library, long corridors. I've been told by a tourist there is ghost stories about this Hotel, and it easy to know why: it is almost a movie set.

Room: we had a family room, in the old part, as requested. It is a bit old but we liked it. Even if i am note sure it costs the price we paid, we slept well and so did our 3y old kid. The bathroom was much too small for a 4 stars hotels, 2 people cannot stand at the same time, and the toilets are close to the door, which is close to the head of the bed ...

Facilities: good spa, nice swiming pool where we had a lot of fun

Restaurant: a bad point there. If you are not Half of Full pension, you'would maybe not have a table at the main restaurant. It proposes a unique menu every day (1 starter 1 main course 1 dessert). You than could go to the Lobbie Caffe (sandwich), to the Brasserie (steak house, we wait a long time), or to the Bowling (only one to be open all day, but very bad food: please hire an american guy for a month to give instruction to your staff !). Main Bar open à 6pm and Cafe Lobbie close at 4pm so during these 2 hours you cannot buy a drink in the main building !!!
Breakfast: excellent choice, good food !

Service: VERY NICE people, VERY friendly, by the end we had everything requester (Huski, restaurant bookings ...) but guys you COULD IMPROVE so much, you HAVE to improve and to match international standards ! Don't justify yourself when something goes wrong: find a solution. And pay attention to a certain young lady who sent me ... to the tourist office in town when i asked her informations about the City.

I really enjoyed my stay at Dr Holms. There were a few gripes but generally I had a decent stay. Let’s get the gripes out of the way. I think this is a British condition but when in Norway it is frustrating that outside of large cities there never seems to be tea making facilities in the room. After a decent winters day there is nothing like a hot drink to sort you out and help you be motivated for the evening. The hotel does have a lobby café which does very good selection of refreshments and the cake, oh the cake! The problem with the café is that its opening hours were very strange; getting off the slopes at a reasonable time and back to the hotel, just in time for the closing of the café. The perfect time for a brew! The après-bar always looked closed at this time (TVs off, no background music, unmanned.) This was not a viable option for a brew… Sorry, British Gripes but I’m sure for a society ran on coffee this must be frustrating for Nordic guests too.

The room was compact, comfortable and clean, once the heating was fired up the room became very toasty. The addition on underfloor heating in the WC/wet-room was very welcome and added an extra bit of comfort. The room window had an extra bit of insulation in the form of ice but it caused no problems and was a nice reminder that outside it was a balmy -16°C. The Christmas card view towards the slopes was exceptional.
The bed was comfortable with an extra pillow available in the wardrobe where there was plenty of storage space for clothing and equipment. The information book was comprehensive with further information available in the lobby.

The spa facilities were good. Very clean but at busy periods there was a lack of space in the changing rooms. The outdoor Jacuzzi in freezing conditions was exhilarating the temptation for a bare-skin snow-angel was overwhelming; I probably won’t do that again if the opportunity arises!

Dr Holms is in a great location close to everything in the centre of Geilo, including the train station and main shopping centre. It is also a 5 minute walk to the nearest ski centre/slopes, Slaatta Skisenter. There are plenty of decent restaurants in Geilo too for various budgets and tastes
.
Overall, I would recommend anyone visiting Geilo to stay at Dr Holms.

Room Tip: Decent view either at the front of the hotel or the top floor at Slaatta side of the hotel.
