I feel like I am in a ghost town, very strange, no one is around, not even in the town. The hotel is nice, just interesting. It's like an homage to whale hunters which if you don't agree with that, makes this a tough stay. There are harpoons all over, whale bones and other artifacts. The town looks a bit dated, the hotel, a little dated as well. It feels like almost being in a ship the way it is designed and laid out.
The hotel is clean, rooms sizeable for European standards, average décor. Bathroom is large, counter space (no tub) and very clean. Downstairs features dinner/breakfast with the room rate and waffles for the afternoon mixer/snack. Internet is also free. The dinner was pretty decent, tomato bisque, salad bar, fresh fruit, potatoes and a baked cod. Not too bad, especially the fruit compote. Server was very, very polite. If you are staying long term, there is a small grocery store out the hotel to the left and then the first left again down by the parking garage.
Parking is adequate, plenty of paid parking alongside the hotel. It is also about a five minute walk to the water/town center. TRF Airport is about 15 minutes without traffic which is equally as nice. They also have coffee all day long.
One issue with the hotel room is there were only two pillows total on a king sized bed which is odd. There were no additional towels in the closet. Also, I would suggest getting a room in the middle of the hotel versus one alongside the road or parking lot. There is a lot of noise all night long outside. Part of this is due to the sun not setting this time of the year. The other issue is, flights come in all day/night which means people come in to the hotel all day/night. We had to have the windows open because the air conditioning didn't work. That meant about every twenty minutes we were bombarded with noise.
I'd probably come back and stay for a night, maybe two, but I would not stay any longer than that. The downside is, there isn't much choice in Sandefjord by way of hotels.
The other issue I have is with the town. I don't think I was there long enough, but I felt like the town wasn't the safest. I had no issue walking around in Oslo and never felt uncomfortable. I just didn't get a warm fuzzy in Sandefjord, and this was walking to the water about 7 pm. I also don't know if I would stay at the hotel with kids, as I didn't see anything really to peek their interest and there wasn't a whole lot around for them. And, if you come here on Sunday, only the little grocery store out to the left and the one just down by the water was open. Everything else is shut down.
