“Fantastic food Great atmosphere ”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

Me and my boyfriend recently went to the ropery for a quick bite to eat and a couple of drinks to see what the recent renovation looked like. The bar now has a lovely rustic feel and a great atmosphere, we enjoyed the live music that was on (we went on a Friday night) whilst having some lovely tapas, the food was great! It was also a bargain at just 10.95 for four tapas dishes! Overall we would definitely recommend going here for a relaxed night out. Friendly staff, great food, and a good atmosphere! What more can you ask for!?

Thank Sarahrutherford

“terrible. will never go again. disgusting”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

we have been to the Ropery previously for carvery and enjoyed it so decided to take advantage of a living social offer and booked the table several weeks ago.
when we got there we were told living social vouchers were no longer accepted as under new management.
however, as a gesture of good will we could have sunday lunch for the cost of £4 (around what we had paid for on living social) but there was no beef. As it was 3.00l pm we decided to accept but I wish we had not. We got the left overs. The turkey and pork was off the carving plate and was wrapped up as if to be used on another day. It was cold. The yorkshire puddings were cold. There was only mashed potato, cabbage, carrots and broken bits of roast potato. Was not at all impressed. It was all lukewarm.

Wish we had known we were getting the left overs and left.

Will not be returning to the Ropery again.

“Such a shame”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 via mobile

Where to start.
Such a shame. This place has scope to be fantastic, it's a beautiful building with friendly staff. Unfortunately after being assure it was had disabled access, it was far from it, the bar on one level, down stairs to toilets and up stairs for food. Waiting times for food amounted to two hours!!! Having to summon the only waitress (covering a full restaurant so it seemed) to take out order after sitting for nearly forty minutes for the started, a long time after, it arrived, soup was inedible, waited a further twenty minutes after finishing for the table to be cleared and to be invited to the carvery, the meat (3 not 5 as stated) was the only thing worth eating, again had to wait and ask for the table to be clearer a fair while after downing cutlery with nothing touched on our plates but the meat, ordered dessert, but got fed up of waiting and were refunded for deserts. From start to finish an utter diaster, no order to the room, pinching Chairs and bringing in tables throughout the meal, families getting up and leaving with out finishing their courses, expensive drinks, and a feeling of nobody knows what they're doing,, very unfortunate, certainly won't be going back until it improves, I wish them luck, it could be fantastic

“shocking to say the least”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Having decided at the last minute to book sunday lunch for mothers day we came across The Ropery in our online search for somewhere local. After reading a few reviews myself mum my partner and our daughter set off eagerly for our meal. Upon arrival we were quite relaxed and appreciated the new look to this building. Firstly we ordered a couple of drinks which were two glasses of wine and a pint of lager which was overpriced at £15.70 and my partner told me it tasted nothing like fosters which was the pump it came out of and tasting it i agreed it was awful. We were shown to our seats but it was a struggle as mum is disabled and struggles to walk and it was two flights of stairs to the dining area although the manager said we could eat downstairs in the bar which is somewhere not to relax and enjoy a meal. However mum struggled and made it to the dining room where we were shown to our table which was right on the edge of an old stage area and one chair was placed dangerously near the step onto it. We chatted and waited for service yet after 20 mins or so we had to catch the eye of a waitress to order our meals. After ordering we had another long wait but in between we were able to move onto another table which had been vacated. Our starters arrive and my daughter chose soup of the day (supposedly vegetable ) and both myself and my partner the beer battered mushrooms which were very nice and would have been nicer with the chilli sauce which i was told was on its way(we never got it). My daughter Sam looked at her soup and grimaced it looked more like a dirty mushroom soup than vegetable and it tasted awful nothing like vegetable soup should be. Deciding not to complain and order our mains. This became another wait as the service was shocking and it was one and a half hours after our arrival to the time we were able to choose our carvery meal. A choice of beef turkey and pork was on offer and i sample a piece of each as did the others. The portions were good and the veg being typical carvery fare. Sitting back down to eat we tucked in and what a disaster. the meat was ok but the veg was bland and offered no taste at all even after salting it. the large yorkshire pudding looked nice but were disgusting and trying to cut them was an ordeal in itself. I had never been served a yorkie anywhere i have been like these ones which totally put us off our food and mum being the only one to eat from the four of us. We left full plates of food and looking around we noticed others doing the same simply getting up and leaving full plates. We had ordered sweets too but asked for our money back as we were bitterly disappointed with our experience. I complained to the manager who simply said we have just opened and give us a couple of weeks before you judge us and no offer of recompense. Sadly we will never return here and give The Ropery the biggest thumbs down ever but if you like soggy tasteless food with soggy cardboard yorkies then please go here you wont be disappointed.
