“Great Stay”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

My wife and I stayed here as part of a large family function and I must say the the whole event was a huge success due in no small part to friendly and efficient staff who were extremely helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and welcoming and we had a good night's sleep. The Italia Retro restaurant is superb with great food well prepared and again the friendly welcome and service from the staff is second to none. We Highly recommend this hotel.

Attended this dinner on 4/1/2014 and initial impressions were favourable, the tables in the function room were nicely set and the seats were not too close together. Unfortunately the initial impression was quickly destroyed by the volume of the music being played during the meal. Most people enjoy background music whilst dining but the music was so loud you found it difficult to hear the person next to you. The meal was average but the vegetables were very al dente, some people could not cut through them. Alas the highlight of the evening 'Paul Moore' was absolutely deafening, many people including a lot from the group I went with left early and we spoke to some young people in their twenties who even complained that it was just too loud. We waited in the lounge area beside the bar outside the function room and this was very cold as were the ladies toilets.

Paid a return visit to the Roker for a family meal of 6. On this occasion it was rather a dissapointment. Although the food itself was good, and reasonably priced, there were a number of menu items that were unavailable, and not all were presented as per description - for example, the chef 'forgot' to add the chicken breast to the 3 mixed grills. It's still pretty good, but the attention to detail and lack of availablilty of quite a few dishes rather marred the event. I would be happy to give it a second chance though

This is our fourth time for Christmas Day Lunch and it was excellent yet again. You are welcomed and shown your table by pleasant staff. The room looks really special not too crowded your table is yours for as long as you want it. The Menu leaflet has your surname on so personnel. The food was excellent one of our guests is a vegetarian and she was very impressed. There was plenty of vegetables. The soup was lovely Butternut Squash and the sweets were to die for. We had our young grandson with us and they gave him a Thorntons Chocolate Reindeer lovely thought. Hope to be back next year.

We stayed in the Roker Hotel over xmas time. There were weather warnings over the time and most guests must have cancelled their stay because of the bad weather. When we booked in, the lady at reception told us that we are going to stay in the hotel and not in the lodge anymore with no extra cost. The hotel's bar and breakfast area have lovely sea views and many bedrooms as well. We were happy to can stay in the hotel and ask if we can have a sea view room, and she said partially sea view, but the only view we have had was the hotel's roof which was very disappointing. Our room was the last room in the corridor which was so dark with no view at all. The breakfast was good and a lady helped us to can have a xmas meal in the Italian restaurant next to the hotel which are in the same building. The restaurant is just looking lovely and the food was nice as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room and make sure you get one.

Dear Reviewer,

Than you for your review. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your Xmas stay with us and also that you enjoyed your complimentary upgrade from the Lodge to the Hotel. Unfortunately our sea view rooms are extremely popular and also command a higher price and that we could not facilitate you with an upgrade to a sea view.

Thank you for your business and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.
