Roker Lodge

Three of us stayed at the Roker Lodge for one night whilst attending the football. 1st impressions of the Lodge were a little disappointing, it's a bit run down looking (the outside) & there was a funny smell at the entrance. Once in the family room though, we all thought it a very big room, clean & warm.
The biggest surprise was the bar, it's an actual pub, it was quite cheap, with great food.
Breakfast is cooked to order (no over cooked buffet here), & was very good :)
Will defo return, if Sunderland ever return to the Premier league!

Excellent staff and breakfast was brilliant but
accommodation is terrible, rooms were cold because the heater in the room did not work.we asked for a different room and we were given a slightly better room but the tv didnt work, so I am sorry to say, overall it was a rubbish stay and we wouldnt stay there again, but on the other hand we would stay next door at the roker hotel, we have stayed there before and its fantastic

stayed for a lads night out early february. fantastic price fantastic service and fantastic room just fantastic and breakfast was well fantastic.only a 5 minute drive or cheap taxi fare to sunderland city centre., the breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice and all you can eat with coffee juices and toast at your will. the room itself was very large with a bar window overlooking the sea. i would recommend this hotel for families groups and couples and would highly recommend a strole down the pier to the lighthouse. Overall brilient stay do not be fooled by the cheap price.

Four of the 'Norwich in Bloom' team went to Sunderland on 28th -30th January 2014 to attend the Britain in Bloom seminar at the Stadium of light. The rooms we had were small but comfortable, warm and the beds really comfortable. The highlight of our visit was visiting the Tavistock Retro Restaurant the staff are outstanding loved it. We had a great night would recommend to anyone. The staff at the hotel for breakfast were really friendly and made you feel at home, was a lovely comfortable stay and made our time in Sunderland really special. Especially Sofien, Lauren, Ian and Siannell. There were a few hiccups but the goods definitely outweighed the bad. Great view of the bay and the sea from our bedroom window.

Room Tip: The rooms are small but the hotel has a great lobby, bar and fantastic restaurant for you to try. we...

This feels as if it is an old B and B which has been taken over by the Roker Hotel which is a part of the Best Western chain. We thought we had booked into the hotel itself and chose Best Western because my wife is a member of their loyalty scheme and wanted the points. So, the first disappointment was to be told that they don't give points to those staying in the lodge. The second disappointment was to be told that the free Wi-Fi clearly advertised does not extend to the Lodge (though BT customers might be interested to know that there is clearly a BT HomeHub within an acceptable distance to receive the free BT service).
The third, huge, disappointment was when we got to the Lodge and our room. Everything is just tired and shabby. We were in a room with two double and two single beds which leads me to ask why they didn't enquire whether we really needed the second single room that we had ordered. I even had to carry out some running repairs on the door lock ( screwdriver to make it secure). The TV worked - but there was a constant loud hum.
Breakfast in the main hotel was fine - but no more than fine and certainly not enough to make up for the rest of the experience.
Best Western ought to be ashamed that they allow their name to be associated with such a very poor hotel. I too wish that we had looked at Trip Advisor before making the booking.
Please do not stay in the Lodge - it's terrible!

Room Tip: There isn't a good room - just don't stay here.

Linked to the Roker Hotel, I was simply shocked that places like this still exist. Dirty, tacky and unwelcoming and that is just the lobby. Poor maintenance regime and generally needs a amn good seeing to I would suggest. NEVER AGAIN would I even consider this place.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else

Stayed here one night 12th oct very shabby looking from outside inside no better !

Family room 201 two double beds and two single beds unfortunately thats where the niceness ends.

Carpet scruffy room freezing bathroom tiny and extremely cold and no hot water !

Ceiling above bed about to fall down and to top it off around a 3cm gap at bottom of door! Pray to god there is no fire in the lodge if you are in this room.

Don't waste your money go somewhere else...
We have stayed in a few best Western hotels up and down the country with no problems at all but this lodge takes the biscuit. . Very surprised BW will put there name against this dump.
