“Steaming days.”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Great place to spend a day when engine is steaming. Also twice a year a classic car show is held with upwards of 2 to 3 hundred Classic and vintage cars on display. Best of all it is totally free.

“A Monument to Great British Engineering”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Came across the road sign for Engine Rooms whilst driving through the area on my return to Newcastle. Was given a guided tour by an enthusiastic volunteer, who told me to return on the bank holiday to see these mighty machines in action. What an amazing site, to see the machines pulling up water from hundreds of feet below ground, and to 'feel' the power of this majestic Victorian invention. There was also a volunteer working the iron forge, making a simple hook ,a skill to behold.Adjoining the Engine Rooms, an elegant house where lovely scones and cakes are made specially for the holiday events. The surrounding reservoirs , overlooking the sea in the distance, make it a lovely place for a picnic.
Thoroughly recommend visiting on Bank holidays, when these machines are put into action by many dedicated volunteers.

“Amazing Place”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

This place is a real gem in Sunderland. Everyone can see the chimney but it is well worth popping in to the museum on one of their steam days. The engines are simply fantastic with volunteers to explain how they work and how they were built. Brilliant Victorian engineering which takes your breath away
