It's always a bit of a risk going to a restaurant on its opening night but this definitely turned out to be a risk worth taking. Every aspect of this visit was seamless and the staff were so professional that you would have thought they'd been at it for years. The standard of service was simply superb - to the extent that my husband who had hurt his hand was given a bag of ice wrapped in a tea towel to hold against it. Does service get any better than that?
The menu is small but beautifully formed with something for everyone. My Northumberland smoked cheese tart was superb and tasted homemade in the best possible way. It had a creamy, delicious filling and the compliments were equally high for the two portions of crab cocotte and the prawn starter we enjoyed. The main courses were wonderful and the salmon dish was perfectly cooked in an excellent sauce. The lamb was tender and moist and even someone with an appetite like my husand had to admit defeat with the sheer amount of meat on the mixed grill and shared it out. Luckily we were all on hand to assist him with the chips which were chunky and crunchy. Although absolutely full, we shared two sticky toffee puddings between the four of us and they were a sticky delight.
A decent restaurant is so overdue for Sunderland and the brasserie fits the bill perfectly. Great setting, great service and great food - cant recommend it enough.
