“Get yourself to the National Glass Centre”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

We are used to eating here on a lunchtime and weren't quite sure what to expect on an evening but it was a superb experience. The location on the riverside is fantastic but the food, service and good value for such a high quality meal made it extra special. The restaurant goes for a quite special focused menu which means that fish, meat and veggies are served well. I went for the special cod croquettes (gorgeous) and though my head said the special sea bass, my heart won and went for the Brassiere Mixed Grill, which was superb- the steak alone was a special meal! I had a cheese board but others went for delicious puds! There were four of us and it was very, very good and a great new evening venue for Sunderland. Try it as it is superb and the team there are just a bit special!

“Much needed addition To Sunderland!”
Reviewed 7 July 2013 via mobile

It's always a bit of a risk going to a restaurant on its opening night but this definitely turned out to be a risk worth taking. Every aspect of this visit was seamless and the staff were so professional that you would have thought they'd been at it for years. The standard of service was simply superb - to the extent that my husband who had hurt his hand was given a bag of ice wrapped in a tea towel to hold against it. Does service get any better than that?
The menu is small but beautifully formed with something for everyone. My Northumberland smoked cheese tart was superb and tasted homemade in the best possible way. It had a creamy, delicious filling and the compliments were equally high for the two portions of crab cocotte and the prawn starter we enjoyed. The main courses were wonderful and the salmon dish was perfectly cooked in an excellent sauce. The lamb was tender and moist and even someone with an appetite like my husand had to admit defeat with the sheer amount of meat on the mixed grill and shared it out. Luckily we were all on hand to assist him with the chips which were chunky and crunchy. Although absolutely full, we shared two sticky toffee puddings between the four of us and they were a sticky delight.
A decent restaurant is so overdue for Sunderland and the brasserie fits the bill perfectly. Great setting, great service and great food - cant recommend it enough.

“Great meal and great value”

We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant on a Friday evening. We chose the specials for both starters and main courses - very good quality and served on glass plates, very appropriate.

“Really Great!!”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

This was the opening weekend after the refurbishment so they only had light bites as the Bistro opens properly next week but it was really lovely. I had a chicken and mango salsa sandwich that came with salad and crisps for £4.30 - there was plenty to eat, all fresh, excellent quality, really tasty and saved time, energy and money instead of making lunch at home and washing up after! All 4 of us enjoyed our lunch. The large dining hall has been separated into 3 areas which creates more of an atmosphere as the ceiling is very high and the 2 walls are glass so that's a big improvement. The weather was glorious today so the huge window walls were in full effect. It's the kind of place where you can be really casual or really smart, its refined yet relaxed and the staff are really nice. A look at the Bistro menu really made us want to go back, can't wait!
