The Church was a fascinating place, full of history and character. Not just a visitor attraction, with its connection with Bede, but a living worshipping community. We loved hearing from the ladies who really went to a lot of trouble to explain the history, pointing out things that we wouldn't have even noticed otherwise. Thank you! They also have a nice café called Bedes Bakehouse serving some nice home cooked food. We have been meaning to come for a long time, and enjoyed our visit immensely.

An amazing place steeped in history and where The Venerable Bede came at the age of seven one of England's first Historians and biographer of The Life of Cuthbert. The guide here was friendly and knowledgeable and the church has a warm and welcoming feel. There is a cafe attached which is really reasonable and nice down to earth Northern welcome.

I was exploring Sunderland with my friend, and after a visit to the Glass Museum, we decided to go and see the church. It is well preserved with beautiful architecture, nice lawn around it. It is a place for a short visit but well worth seeing it!

The church is 1,340 years old, built in 673AD and is still in good condition with a lot of history behind it . The guide who showed us round was very informative an helpful.
I have got a vested interest , as my wife and I were married there in 1979.
