“Beautiful setting for this gem”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

I had wanted to visit St Peters since finding in my family research that ancestors had married, baptised and been buried here. Its a lovely church set in verdant surroundings.

“Wedding”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

This church is one of the most beautifull small churches. Lovely restored and the organ sounds great. The preacher is a lovely person, is down to earth and makes one feel at home and in peace with oneself. There is even a small cantine with sitting area in the back where one can have a bite to eat and relax and chat with friends.

“An historical gem”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

St Peter's is a small church on the bank of the river in Monkwearmouth - north bank. It dates backk to Saxon times and some of the original fabric is still visible. The church played a major role in the development of Christianity in Britain along with it's 'twin' at South Shields. Both locations were home of Benedict Biscop and the Venerable Bede. The volunteer staff on hand were highly knowledgable, friendly and helpful. As one of the oldest churches in Britain it is a must for history lovers
