After reading very positive reviews on trip advisor, we decided this might be the place to eat before seeing a show. I rang a few days previous asking if there was a menu on line and was told to access it from the takeaway menu, which we did and liked the look of.
When we arrived at lunchtime, we were given a menu which stated "lunchtime" but were a bit disappointed to find the Greek dishes we had viewed from the takeaway menu were not listed, and assumed as it was lunchtime that is was a limited menu. So we chose from the Mexican dishes listed instead. However, when we started to gave our order we were informed that they no longer did Mexican food!! Not knowing the area and only having a certain amount of time before the show started, we had little choice other than to pick something else. Shortly after our food arrived (our Greek salad arrived with what I can only describe as crumbs of feta cheese sparsely sprinkled on the top, whilst the so called "chunky chips" weren't chunky and tasted stale as though they were left overs and re fried again), I overheard one of the waitresses telling another customer that they did moussaka etc.. When she came to our table I asked if they only did the main Greek dishes on an evening, only to be told no, they were available all the time, but you have to ask for them!! How on earth can you ask for something if you don't know they do them especially if you hadn't accessed the takeaway menu on the net?! So not only had we been given menus with a whole host of dishes that were no longer served but not told about as we were given the menu, but we weren't told that other dishes were available but weren't listed on the menu!! We were told that new menus were waiting to be printed and that the place was very new, but surely that would make it even more important to give the right info regarding meals in the first place if they want to ensure customers come back.
I pointed out to the lady who we spoke to that it wasn't common practice to give people a menu to choose their food, and then expect them to ask if they did other things!! It would be like going into a fish shop but asking them if they did Greek salad, you wouldn't would you! So our overall experience was not good at all. Thankfully the show proved to be worth going to Sunderland for, unlike our lunch venue.
