My partner and I have visited this restaurant on 4 occasions twice on an evening, once for mid week lunch, once for Sunday lunch.
This is a lovely friendly little restaurant beautifully decorated and just what Silksworth needs!
The service is always VERY attentive to the point of annoyance, constantly being asked every time a member of staff passes if everything is ok? It really needs toning down a little.
The food we rated as overpriced and average. The midweek lunch (a pork sandwich) was overcooked and very dry with chips served in a little pail which was a lovely touch, the cakes carrot cake and millionaires shortbread were delicious and presented beautifully, (however I gather they are now being bought in rather than home made which is a shame), the coffee came with milk in little bottles which is another lovely touch.
The evening meal was generally lacking in flavour and unmemorable with very over attentive staff.
The Sunday lunch was in a league of its own with the starter looking as if it had just been tipped onto my plate and my partner's looked generally unattractive and his vegetables were cold, my son's main course was overcooked and flavourless lasagne.
Unfortunately there is no draft lager, only bottles making it an expensive night out if you're thinking of making a night of it with friends - one of the reasons our friends have refused to go.
We had very high hopes for this restaurant and believe the owner is doing a good job in some respects but still has a long way to go in respect of the food. We have given the scullery a good shot but with another great restaurant in Silksworth selling excellent food for around the same price, draft lager, and excellent unobtrusive service I am very sad to say we will not be returning here.
