My partner and I have visited this restaurant on 4 occasions twice on an evening, once for mid week lunch, once for Sunday lunch.

This is a lovely friendly little restaurant beautifully decorated and just what Silksworth needs!

The service is always VERY attentive to the point of annoyance, constantly being asked every time a member of staff passes if everything is ok? It really needs toning down a little.

The food we rated as overpriced and average. The midweek lunch (a pork sandwich) was overcooked and very dry with chips served in a little pail which was a lovely touch, the cakes carrot cake and millionaires shortbread were delicious and presented beautifully, (however I gather they are now being bought in rather than home made which is a shame), the coffee came with milk in little bottles which is another lovely touch.
The evening meal was generally lacking in flavour and unmemorable with very over attentive staff.
The Sunday lunch was in a league of its own with the starter looking as if it had just been tipped onto my plate and my partner's looked generally unattractive and his vegetables were cold, my son's main course was overcooked and flavourless lasagne.

Unfortunately there is no draft lager, only bottles making it an expensive night out if you're thinking of making a night of it with friends - one of the reasons our friends have refused to go.

We had very high hopes for this restaurant and believe the owner is doing a good job in some respects but still has a long way to go in respect of the food. We have given the scullery a good shot but with another great restaurant in Silksworth selling excellent food for around the same price, draft lager, and excellent unobtrusive service I am very sad to say we will not be returning here.

Jayne A, thank you for your recent review, and sorry that your visits have not been enjoyable, as you can see from further reviews on Trip Advisor your portrayed experience is certainly not what other diners have given us. You must also forgive me, because when reviews then detail as you have done other restaurants we automatically become suspicious that the review is more malicious than constructive. I have had a similar issue with a local forum, and allegedly the perpetrator was the owner of another local restaurant, so we are always wary.

Nonetheless, if we can comment on your points raised and treat the review as a genuine angst. Firstly thank you for your comments on our décor and nice touches, which you will see is a popular comment made from other reviewers. Regarding the over attentive service, the staff have been trained and are encouraged to liaise with the customers to ensure that their experience is one which our customers would expect, but to also address issues without the customer having to feel awkward if there is an issue with the food or the price or anything they are unhappy with during their time in the restaurant. On this point, did you raise any of the issues you’ve noted in this review with any members of our staff during their over attentiveness? That first and foremost is the forum to respond, we can’t address your issues there and then without the need for you to go away unhappy.

You’ve stated that you’ve been four times, can we ask was all four of your experiences like this? The reason we ask is that you’ve returned three times from your first experience to what you rate as poor food and overall “very disappointing”. I know from my own experiences that if something is right I would do one of two things, address it with the management of the restaurant and see if the response is satisfactory or not return at all, plus given that as you’ve stated you have another great restaurant on your doorstep then it would have been no inconvenience for you to dine elsewhere.

Cakes or desserts, these are homemade, by a lovely local lady, however we also buy them in too, our short bread is always homemade we are pleased that you enjoyed them which is the far more important thing!

Your comment regarding the Sunday lunch! Tipped on your plate and very unattractive, i am concerned to read that as i know every dish that comes from the chefs are to a high standard, quality and presentation, every dish has its own spec and style and our team are trained to check quality before sending out to the customers,

Regarding the draught beer, it’s something in the future that we are looking at addressing, however the prices are more than reasonable for the beers we offer in comparison to others

Overall i am sorry you feel we are not for you, maybe sometime in the future you may decide to return and give us another chance Thank you Hayley

My friend and I visited the scullery on a bank holiday Monday, we walked in a got a seat straight away.

We loved the decor and selection of food available was excellent, the staff gave us a good amount if time to look over the menu and took our drinks orders while we read the menu again.

We finally ordered our food, presentation was lovely and we didn't have to wait too long. The only thing that was a slight let down was the pulled pork wasn't pulled pork as I know it, never the less the pork was cooked lovely and the chips were very nice.

We will be returning here again for sure and afternoon tea with cocktails sounds great for a summer afternoon.

Went here with two friends for Sunday lunch. Really pretty place. The food was excellent and really good value. The service was faultless-very professional young waitresses who really took care of us. Try the sticky toffee pudding - it comes with a little surprise!

What more could you ask for, excellent food, excellent staff and excellent location ( right on our doorstep) Run by a local family, not some annoymous, faceless company. The restaurant is evolving on the time, owners listen to customers and respond to suggestions. We know you will continue to provide an excellent service to our community and beyond.
