“Other hotels take note !”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

The first person who greeted us was a gentleman in the car park who ensured that we, as paying guests, were allocated a parking space, rather than non guests who were going to the same concert that evening. This person was very polite and friendly, ensuring that we knew the way to the stadium once we had checked in.

The lovely lady on reception was also very friendly, polite and professional.

Our room, Room 4 was near reception and very quiet and comfortable indeed.

We ate in the restaurant on the evening and could not fault the quality of food, and value for money

Other hotel groups should take note on how to make customers feel welcome. Well done to all !

I normally stay in hotels that cost several times more than the £29 per night charged by PI.
On this occasion due to the location and cost I booked a two night stay.
Cannot fault our stay. Value for money is exceptional , staff could not be more helpful.
The only thing i did not book was breakfast, as several reports were very negative about the diner adjacent to the hotel. BUT it might have improved.

Great base for a weekend, location close to town and rooms clean and comfortable. Staff extremely friendly. Although breakfast service can be hit or miss, good selection and tasty food! Lovely little garden with Wendy house and obstacle course for children.

My hotel room was average for the brand but the heating control instructions were not for the control in the room, it was so hot it was awful, I opened the window but the noise from the dual carriageway was equally annoying. I visited the attached restaurant/bar for my evening meal, the service was so slow it was comical (this was at 6pm and it was not busy), the food was less than avegerage and expensive for what it was. The breakfast was worse. The first pathetic serving was cold so I sent it back, the replacement came with congealed beans and a tide mark on the plate where they had been overheated in the microwave, I just laughed at it and I overheard the waitress and the chef (I use that title loosely) discussing my reaction, the language would have better suited the nearby stadium. I just couldn't be bothered to take issue but will never stay here again on my monthly visit to the area.

The restaurant is the only thing letting this hotel down, rooms clean, bright and comfortable, bathrooms great with fantastic showers and staff great as always. Your're made welcome as soon as you arrive and nothing is too much troubel for the staff but the restaurant next door is a different story.

Staaff seemed as if they were still there from the night before both in appearance and manner.
Continental breakfast - limited selection of cereal, fresh fruit salad looked far from fresh and the toaster was useless, once through it left bread uncooked, twice through burnt the bread which felt damp to start with as if it had just been defrosted, coffee luke warm , tea not much better but yoghurts were warm even though they were sat in ice.

Guy at the next table had waited over 30 mins. for his cooked breakfast but said it was good when in came. He also said food in the evening was good so we decided to forget about breakfast and asked the hotel receptionist to book us a table for dinner at 7.30pm which she kindly did and was then told to tell us we would have to be out by 9pm latest. After some consideration we later decided to cancel because our potential bill was likely to be about £70-£80 and we were being given a maximum fo 90 minutes to spend our money.

In the end we got a taxi, booked by reception, to The Barnes where we had an excellent meal at the Toby Carvery far more pleasant surroundings , good food and cheerful staff.

We have stayed at this Premier Inn many times over the last 3 years as our daughter is at Sunderland University. We have generally had a good stay with no complaints but this last weekend was not so good.
When we checked in around 5pm I enquired, as normal, about a table for evening meal only to be told they were fully booked until 9pm, and that early booking was always advisable. This was new to me as we'd never had to book before and nothing indicated so on the booking documents. The receptionist phoned through and then apparently we could be fitted in at 6pm, which suited us perfectly. The restaurant was virtually empty with many staff not having anything to do. Several times we were approached for our orders within a few minutes and we had to ask them to go away so we could choose! The food was good but the menu was not.
Breakfast the following morning was a disaster!! Our full english breakfasts (on a small oval plate!!!) had to be returned to the kitchen 3 times for a replacement as some part of it was cold - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
We complained on checking out though we appreciated it was not the receptionists fault and to be fair by the time we returned home that evening she had secured a full refund on the breakfasts.
The restaurant is letting down the good name of Premier Inns, and we may choose to go elsewhere next time
