“Friendly Staff”
Reviewed 21 September 2009

Stayed for 2 nights when my wife competed in Great North Run. All staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and roomy. Enjoyed both breakfast and evening meal in restaurant next door. Did not find noise from road a hinderance to sleep. Value for money ok.

Stayed for a couple of nights. The advice about the noisy nearby road is true - I definitely couldn't leave the window open on a warm night. The room was clean, comfortable, had a decent bathroom, and was spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful given the constraints of a Premier Inn.
The Old Orleans pub/restaurant next door had a suspiciously hurried service for dinner, and this was confirmed by the food being awful. The Caesar salad was drowned in a far too strong dressing and the ingredients poor quality. The chicken fajitas accompaniments were inedible. Definitely avoid!

The staff really made this visit. I was unhappy with my room as I had been put next to the staircase, and as a single female traveller I prefer to be further down the coridoor. I mentioned this to the receptionist when I arrived, and she could not have been more helpful. I was immediately switched rooms. The room was lovely, very clean and looked cared for. I asked for directions in the morning, and the receptionist (a different one) gave me a map, directions, and booked me a taxi! Nothing was a problem for any of the team members (I even asked a housekeeper for an extra pillow) and they always had a smile. Not always found in this country! I ate in the Old Orleans next door and the food was fine, the service, again, was very friendly and efficiant.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the weekend. The purpose of our stay was just as a quiet, comfy place to sleep as we were out all day. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The man on duty overnight was particularly helpful. The room was large and very clean with an enormous bed, and a bath too which is always a bonus at a budget hotel. There was tea and coffee in the room with plenty more sachets available at reception too if you ran out. We asked for a room above the reception rather than by the road and it was very quiet. The hotel is in a retail park and so there is no traffic at night. We ate at Old Orleans (food service stops at 10pm) and again the service was very good and more importantly quick! We didn't have a car and so had to use a taxi to get to town which cost about £8. It cost us £35 to get there from Newcastle Airport on a Friday night.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting our mother who is in a care home. Check in was prompt & efficient, we were allocated a room on thr ground floor at the end of the corridor. The room was fresh tidy & clean and all seemed well. However, we soon realised the proximaty of the nearby dual carriageway and the constant drone of passing vehicles. The reception called to ask if all was okay which seemed odd, we advised re the traffic noise. After an evening out we returned and were kept awake all night by the road noise. The next day we asked for a move & the staff couldnt have been more helpful. We were moved to a large room further away from the dual carriageway, only a little noise being noted. 2nd night we slept well. We took breakfast on the 2nd morning only, served in the adjacent pub. The fare was good with plenty of choice and of a good standard. Recommended when your child eats for free... All in all the TravelInn is good value for money with nice rooms, exceptionally nice beds and clean towels in the bathroom. They just appear to have an issue at this one with road noise. I would suggest soundproofing would do the job as the windows are only a single pane. If you are a light sleeper you may wish to look elsewhere or e-mail the hotel before arrival and request a room nearer to reception.

  • Liked — Clean comfortable beds. Friendly & helpful staff.
  • Disliked — Road noise from adjacent dual carriageway.

Have stayed at this Premier Inn several times when visiting family, (wish they did Loyalty Cards!!) and have always been really happy with our stay. Staff are great and very helpful, hotel is quiet and well looked after, and it's in a good spot for shopping or accessing pretty much anything in the city. Would be fantastic if they did offers similar to travelodge because the price for a few nights does add up, especially when you use it regularly!

This Premier Inn is located out of the city centre just a short taxi ride from the station. The staff were helpful and pleasant and my room was the usual high standard that one expects from Premier Inn. A large room, sparkling bathroom and enormous bed were very welcoming!
The Old Orleans restaurant was located right next door and the staff there were also very welcoming. I was given a bowl of popcorn to munch while perusing the menu! A decent choice of food from Cajun through Italian to more basic British was available. I can recommend the Coconut Prawns!
It was quite a warm night so the fan in my room was most welcome and the security windows meant that I felt safe leaving the window open even though I was on the ground floor. I had a great night's sleep on the comfortable bed and the blackout curtains ensured that I stayed asleep till my alarm went off!
Highly recommended.

  • Liked — good restaurant and comfort
  • Disliked — shower wasn't very powerful
