My first visit was for a family members birthday. There was much deliberation over the best starter choice. I went for parmasan shortbread and words cannot describe the dish! Needless to say we returned shortly after to have some more, and then again days after. I have since tried the pressed ham and that too is delicious.
My family all have varying tastes where steak is concerned, ranging from my 'lift the head from the plate to moo, rare' to my parents 'well done, praying over the cremated remains'. Each steak was presented to us done to perfection. Tonight I decided for my fourth visit in 2 weeks to spread my wings and try the pies. I went for the chicken, leek and wild mushroom pie. Oh my God! It was amazing, I spent my time eating the dish mmming and aaahhing over the taste sensation that it is.
I have ranted and raved nonstop to anyone and everyone since my first I visit. Introducing friends and family alike to the taste buds treat that is Harbys Lounge. The food is that which I am sure is served on Mount Olympis. Service is beyond friendly, you are made to feel at home from the start. They cater to the customers needs throughout.

A few friends met here as reviews were great but in hindsight I think perhaps some may have added by friends, saying that the food was alright although my starter was over cooked & we waited a while for our main course to be served. The waitress was very pleasant as was the surroundings but you have to climb a large staircase so i would not recommended for the elderly or infirm. What was off putting was 'friends' of the staff standing on the landing outside of the doorway chatting on their phone or to staff. It is reasonable with regards to price -basically it's ok.

Hi and thank you for your honesty,

I am truly sorry you did not seem to get the experience that we strive to achieve at harby's Lounge .
I can honestly say that all of our reviews are from genuine customers to our restaurant and they are not friends of ours writing them.
As you will know at the end of writing a review you are asked if there is any involvement or connection the the establishment.

I also believe in fair play and let the quality of the produce I buy and the skill in that it is cooked do the talking.

I would be very interested to hear in more detail your experience so that I can rectify any of the issues. Customer feed back is very important to me and unless I know the facts I can not insure they don't happen again.

Please get in touch either by telephone and ask for me or if you could be so kind as to send me an email and we can get all the facts at daveandsam@harbysrestaurants.co.uk

Kind Regards

So, we frequent the fabulous Isis pub regularly (like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory for beer/cider lovers!) and yet we hadn't graced Harby's Lounge. Absolute rudimentary schoolboy error! We have wasted so much time and deprived ourselves of what can only be described as a total culinary delight! Anyhow, we went along for my mother's 60th birthday and we were immediately made to feel at home with some great table service. Even humouring us with our requests of surprising my mam with a birthday cake. The menu isn't pages thick but my word it certainly doesn't need to be as you are absolutely spoilt for choice by what is on offer! And I do believe a certain Gordon Ramsey once said you can determine the quality of a restaurant by the food on offer, "The more dishes, the lower the standard". Anywho, I really couldn't decide what I wanted from the offset. I was torn. So me and my sister decided to make a 'go halfies' pact. A decision she instantly regretted! I opted for the potato skins (it's a favourite!) and Bex went for the Parmesan shortbread. The potato skins were cooked to perfection and was a very generous portion. Excellent! I was sharing after all! And then we clapped eyes on the Parmesan shortbread. Oh. My. God! AMAZING!!! I could see how much it broke my sisters heart cutting into it and presenting me with it. Definite resentment there. Even more so when we both put it in our mouth. With numerous exclamations of 'mmm ohmygod' I knew I needed more of this good stuff and made a mental calculation of how soon I could return back to Harby's for this reason alone without it getting a little bit weird...so that was enough for me. And then my steak arrived. Oh man, I'm always a bit hesitant in ordering steak as I'm very, VERY precise in how I like it. And not many chefs can get it right and I'm often left feeling let down. Basically, I like my steak to be still mooing. It's got to be a good quality steak too. With a nice peppercorn sauce. So I cut into my steak and wowwaweewa, absolute perfection! Like best steak I've had. Ever. The chips, were amazing! Triple cooked, homemade deliciousness. We had to fight with my little nana to put her knife and fork down! This is the 82 year old lady who has a 'small appetite', well she hammered that steak and chips!!! And how the hell can a salad, a SALAD taste so flavoursome? I immediately declared black magic, witchcraft and voodoo in that kitchen. And I can't say how devastated I was I couldn't manage a desert. So that was the Wednesday. That Saturday, 3 days later, me and my sis returned. You know, just to make sure it wasn't a flook. And for more of that Parmesan shortbread goodness. Nope no flook. And that night I made a public declaration on Facebook I would marry the chef/do his and his wife's dirty laundry for a daily dose of the Parmesan shortbread. And the offer remains. We left it 4 days after Saturday before we dared return for another dose of the food porn on offer at Harby's Lounge. And still, AMAZING!!! I'm absolutely raving about the place to every single person I meet and I literally cannot rate the place highly enough. Boys and girls, get yourselves there. A total hidden treasure. It's a total foodie's dream!!

This is the 2nd time we have been to harbys lounge and it exceeded the 1st time which I thought was impossible. We had Sunday lunch and it was easily the best Sunday dinner I've eaten. Starters were fantastic and full of flavour, the lunch was beautiful the meat was tender and perfectly cooked, the mash was beautiful and creamy and veg was tasty and plentiful. Desserts were a joy to eat again .
You have to try this hidden gem in sunderland.
