We used this hotel as a base for exploring Monaco and surrounding area. It appears to have been built by a European company, then purchased later by Marriot. While it is located at the Cap d'Ail yacht harbor, not in central Monaco, we preferred this quieter area. The free shuttle takes guests to major locations in Monaco and you hop a local #5 or #6 bus to get back - very easy and cheap (1 Euro regardless of distance). Also express bus #110 to the Nice airport stops directly in front of the hotel - great convenience and very comforatble way to get there at reasonable cost (18 Euros one way, discounted round trip fare).

Be sure to get a junior suite on the harbor side - quieter and very nice to have cocktails on your balcony while watching the activity on the yachts in the harbor. The dockside restaurant is fine for breakfast, but otherwise can't recommend it except for drinks and snacks at the adjacent bar.

Dont't exchange money there - very unfavorable rate - we were warned by the desk staff (that is a plus!). Be aware that if you don't have an ATM card or credit card with a PIN you're out of luck. All banks are completely electronic with only ATM's and there is no American Express office in Monaco - just a Thomas Cook travel (only) agency that doesn't do any financial transactions. If you're in a tight spot, ask to add a reasonable amount added to a restaurant or store bill and get change back. You have to go to the Nice airport if you need transactions with American Express.

All in all a good experience that didn't make us feel like we were staying in an American island in the middle of Monaco, yet were very comfortable - except for the marginal air conditioning during hot weather.

My wife and I along with 15 and 18 year old children stayed here for 6 nights. Our room was very nice, facing the marina and spectacular views of the sea from the balcony. It was clean and service was always good. As Marriott Gold level members all four of us received breakfast everyday and all items in the minibar were included. Make sure you ask or point out your status upon check-in, I had the feeling they were not going to offer this up until I asked. The location is very convenient for access to Monaco and the whole coast. There are close by bus stops that can take you most anywhere for 1 Euro. Walking to the nearby commercial center is easy, and this contains a full grocery store where you can buy all that you may need for touring the country side. There are many restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. The only real problem we had was at dinner in the hotel on two different occasions. The food was good but the service was not up to par. They were either having staffing problems with waiters or cooks, but both evenings we waited more than 2.5-3 hours for the meal to complete. This was not due to the more relaxed European time frame for dinner (we know to expect that), this point was was proven by the fact that they gave us complimentary drinks and dessert the first night and 20% off our entire bill the second night as way of apology. This being said breakfast was very good and the staffing problems were know where to be seen, it was a great way to start the day. I would also say in contrast to some other reviews that the staff throughout the hotel was friendly, professional, helpful, and many times went out of their way to help us. Overall an excellent hotel and the location is excellent.

I am in France every few weeks and my base is near Avignon. I always take the Delt 83 flight direct to NY which leaves at 10:45 AM so I must wake at 5:30 to drive the 2:30 hours to Nice aeroport. I decided this time to find a hotel that woul fit the following requirements.
1) The last night and I am over authentic experiences, French bistro/haute cuisine fare
2) A place that is more than acceptable but durng the warm months, has access to the beach and is on the water.

I found all of this in the delightful Marriot Cap D'Ail . Cap D'ail is a tiny town surrounded by Monaco and it has the feel of a small secure little harbor with many boats from Monaco using the lovely small port. You also have easy access to Monte Carlo and a more 'up and about' last night if you desire. We chose to stay in Cap D'ail as we we wanted to rest...enjoy the cote d'azur ..but not in a 5* 'hot spot' hotel. We were also less than a 1/2 hour from Nice Airport for the following morning, The harbor is very nice to stroll around and indeed I did jump into the water on the small beach but ATTENTION: If you are not a good swimmer, you must be aware of swimming around and underwater because of big rocks jutting out of the water until you are a bit further out. The water was clean and beautiful and although pebbly...we had the small beach to ourselves. The lobby is modern 4* business hotel 'anywhere in the world' but...you must get a room on the seaside of the hotel. We had a superior (or standard..couldn't figure it out) and although the room was perfectly as expected, Modern Marriot Businnes hotel...clean and functional....the views from our terrace were breathtaking! We sat outt here before dinner and had some Rose and at that moment 'we loved this hotel'. Flat-screen TV, free wi-fi in the lobby and other ammenties you would expect of this type of hotel should be mentioned. I must also mention the most friendly staff I've encountered on the tourist-heavy Cote D'azur. They went out of their way to help us send a rather large key back to the previous hotel that we had not returned upon leaving, inadvertently and they were always asking us if they could make our stay nicer when we passed them in the lobby. The servers in the restaurant were just as pleasant,. You can dine outside at their little brasserie which was exactly the type of place we wanted after days of cheese and foie gras. Nothing gastronimique but fresh Chicken breast with Asapargus soup And great 'frites'. Not expensive and just hits the spot! We would stay here again in the same situation in a heartbeat. Oh..if you wanted a nice 4* hotel because you wanted to spend much time in Monaco but the prices were to high...if you have a car or don't mind a walk.....this is a good alternative.
PS People were laying out by the pool where there was a little cabana serving drinks and snacks , poolside. The fitness center is excellent as well!!!!!!!!

The hotel is not actually in Monaco, it's in France. The hotel is located at Cap d'ail habour and most of rooms do have a sea view. The room size is OK, compared of waht you pay for. If you want to go to Monte Carlo at night time, take some time if you called a taxi. It's very unlike the taxi will turn up within 30 min. Basically it's not the fault of the hotel - generally the taxi system in Monaco. Most of the taxis do have regular customers.
The service of the hotel is compared to other Marriott hotels rather poor. The reception is not very helpful and rather unfriendly if you ask for any assistance. The staff in the bar and restaurant is OK. The pool is very small in located in front of a road.
If you consider to stay in Monaco, thera are better places to stay for a better rate.
