“Very nice dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2013

This was the best dining experience we have had in Malta. The food was well prepared, the wines suggested were very good and the location was perfect. We can definitely recommend this restaurant to others. When we asked for chocolate for dessert, which was not on the menu, they brought that free of charge.

They did not have a menu for children, which would have been good. It is therefore not recommended for families with children. Perfect for couples.

“uniquely sited”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

On the wharf at Portomaso Marina, Al Molo is uniquely sited. Five star food at four star prices. I would consider it slightly above average for its class but there are far better restaurants in the vicinity that serve up just as good food for less. Recommended for occasional dining but would not make it my regular eaterie. Good looking foreign waitresses provided an adequate service.

“superb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013

Although the selection from the menu is varied, different and very exotic , we decided to go for the chef's recommendations. We have been served heavenly tartars from meat and salmon, different tastes of pastas and amazingly cooked fresh fish.

“What has happened to this place??!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

Booked as have had two fabulous visits here in previous years. As it was feast weekend, we prebooked our table as we were meeting friends whilst on holiday and promised them it would be a special night.
We arrived to find that despite an email confirmation, there was no table prepared for our group, in fact the waiter went and moved another family so that we could sit down!
We ordered our meals and waited. I noticed that the windows were filthy and remember being quite surprised. Starters arrived, but nothing for me. None of the staff questioned the fact I was the only one without and I had to call someone over to ask where mine was. He went off, but still nothing came. My friends were finishing theirs so I called another waiter over and told them not to bother if it had been forgotten as I didn't want to eat alone. The original waiter came out to clear the plates and said that they didn't write my starter down. He shrugged his shoulders but no apology. Main courses arrived which were very good but we received no follow ups, drink top ups or offers of further wine or champagne etc. our plates were cleared and then we were just left again. After another 20mins, I called a waiter over to tell him we hadn't been offered a dessert menu. He muttered something about it not being typed up and then listed by name only some desserts. By this time, we'd had enough. We were disappointed and embarrassed as we'd promised our friends a special evening. We left our payment on the table and departed. None of the staff made any attempt to come and take our money or say thank you!
Something must have happened here for such a sharp decline in service and cleanliness. Even the staff weren't dressed impeccably in long aprons as we remembered. It was markedly quieter than the same time last year and seemed to be without the heaving tables of locals which was telling. Perhaps it closed and reopened with new managers? Nevertheless, we won't return. Hopefully local hotel concierges catch on quickly that this is no longer the place to go and don't recommend it to unwitting guests!

“Abandoned to our own devices”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2013

When we arrived we were told that there no outside tables and asked if we would be happy to take a seat indoors. We said yes and ushered in and left there with menus for half an hour while no one came near us until a younger waiter asked if we wanted still or sparkling. The water arrived about 15 mins later. When someone did eventually come to take our order we pointed out that we would like some wine. After selecting a red wine, the waiter came over with a bottle of Chenin blanc and basically accused my wife of ordering the wrong wine when she pointed out that she had ordered a merlot.

The food was decent but didn't have the wow factor to justify the price.

The waiter didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee after our main course. We felt abandoned. While a neighbouring table of Italians had several staff members attending to them, waiters seemed to look the other way while they passed our table.

The ambiance was livened up for a short time with some AC DC playing from the kitchen.

We'll definitely never be back.
