Description: Caffe` Portomaso is the oldest outlet of the Marina Restaurants fleet and has been operating successfully since 2003. It is situated below the Portomaso Business Tower (adjacent to the Hilton Hotel) and is a great place for shoppers, sightseers and the business community for a quick drink or a bite to eat. Caffe` Portomaso, like all the other outlets, has both inside and outside seating. The outside terrace is set up with outdoor wicker furniture where canopies are opened in order to shelter guests from the strong rays of the sun in the summer months and the rain in the winter months. Caffe` Portomaso has got an inside seating capacity of approximately eighty covers and an outside seating capacity of forty covers. The inside is designed to give a warm and 'homey' feeling, where many choose to make the coffee shop their spot to have a cup of coffee and read the newspaper in the morning.

“Excellent Casual Dining”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

We tried this restaurant for lunch and had of wraps & sandwiches which were all fresh. We also had coffee & cake (to die for). The service can be a bit slow, but as we were on holiday it did not matter, but we did witness a couple of business people leaving as no-one had taken their order.

“Great for a pit stop”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

We visited the Caffe Portomaso a couple of times and on both occasions the service was great. They do the most wonderful ice cream and my husband tried a couple of different cakes and thoroughly enjoyed them both. They have a flexible attitude and can mix up things on their menus. The only criticism I would have is that even sitting inside it was impossible to avoid the smell of cigarette smoke from the outside.

“Great for lunch”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Ate here a couple of times as a party of 7, including children.

We thought the food was tasty, good value for money and served with a smile. The ice cream is to die for!

It's a cafe rather than a restaurant, but I don't think it pretends to be anything else.

“Disgusting and Disappointing”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Extremely disappointing! Ordered ftiras and a sandwich: the sandwich was burnt the ftiras were hot from the outside ( toasted bread) and cold from the inside. Did not eat them as we were afraid the chicken and veg which was inside might be contaminated as it was cold. You will think that such an eating out outlet situated in that are would offer the best. It was a pity as we expected to have a good snack.

Dear Reviewer.

“Utter Keyboard Terrorism” based on false misinterpretation.

Your feedback is unacceptable to me and to the reputation Café Portomaso has.
“Disgusting” should not be allowed by Tripadvisor and is most alarming to read, especially when based on your “Gross factual errors” and your inability to know what you as a customer had ordered.

May I draw your attention to the known “Fact” that the “Chicken, Gammon & Chutney” Ftira has a “Chilled stir-fried Chicken, Gammon and Veg filling” folded in “Chutney” & lightly toasted to achieve some crunchy effect to the bread before being served. This is clearly stated on the menu.

We endeavour to maintain the highest of standards and we take comments very seriously.
The amount of “Ftiras” we sell daily is uncountable and are prepared fresh daily, however all our customers are aware that the filling is chilled and not hot. The ftiras are actually kept on “clear display” to All Customers in the display refrigerated counter and toasted in the clear view of all our Customers.

Incidentally was there a particular reason why you did not ask to speak to the manager or shift leader?
The shift leaders on duty are there to troubleshoot and handle situations such as the one in which you found yourself in. Should you have requested your Ftira Filling to be lightly warmed we would have gladly obliged.

It has become very easy for customers such as yourself to hide behind an unknown profile and do your utmost to damage irresponsibly other than comment constructively and seriously. We thank God that you form part of a minority though as clearly can be seen from other Tripadvisor reviewers.
I shall leave it to ALL Tripadvisor readers and Café Portomaso customers to judge your “shameful” review and conclude that this is just utter “Cowardly Keyboard Terrorism” and not “Realistic Advice”.

Yours sincerely.

Alex Ellul.
