“7 night Stay in Dec”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014 for a stay in December 2013

4 of us Stayed at Villa Sunnyside 7th-14th Dec and had a great time. The villa is incredibly spacious, split over 5 floors so if anything was too big for our requirements. The communal area downstairs was the best with a large corner sofa, TV, open plan living/kitchen onlooking to the terrace with BBQ. Even in the height of maltas winter we managed to squeeze out a couple of BBQs for good measure.

The villa is very well equipped with utensils, coffee machine (an essential), washing machine etc. The below ground floors containing the games room, and bar etc was a little cold, and probably could do with some airing - but to be honest this felt like a bonus (unnecessary space really) to have it. It was handy after a few beers and a steak to be able to pop downstairs for a game of pool (even if it was a little cold/dark) and certainly not complaining it was there as most places wouldn't have this.

It's about 15mins walk downhill to St Julians, we walked in every day and there's always the bus (stop around 4-5 mins walk), or of course a car.

Great stay, thank you David and Jane!

“Week we will not Forget!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We stayed in Villa Sunnyside and our family and friends in Villa Diamantine from the 30th of April 2013 to the 7th of May 2013 for a family wedding and we had a great time.

The villas were really fantastic with great space, decor, entertainment and great pools.
We had a fab time here and enjoyed every minute of our stay and did not want to go home!"
We could have easly spent 2 weeks in these villas. The villas are situated in a really relaxing part of Malta with nearby Saint Julians which has some great night life we had a bit of everying on this holiday close to shops, buses, night life and quiet also when you need this.
Great barbeques in each villa which was a really good way for us to eat and for the two villas to get together.

Would recommend these villas to anyone travelling to Malta we could not fault a thing we really well looked after and big thanks to the owners David and Jane for their hospitality and ease of booking and transfers and welcome and making it a wonderful trip really!!

thanks guys 10/10

“Disappointing, stressful nightmare!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We booked Villa Sunnyside as well as Villa Belvedere next door (rented by the same owner) to accommodate our families and wedding party for a weeks stay during our nuptials. The villa's are both large and, as mentioned in other reviews, have wonderful views from the higher floors.

We had issues before arrival in regards to the cost of the villas. Our agreement stated the price was based on 'x' amount of adults, (to which we added to and paid accordingly for the extra adults), however when we asked whether towels would be included for the children in our party they informed us that we would have to pay full adult price for the two 15 year olds! We felt the age which constituted an 'adult price' should have been made clear or written somewhere and were disappointed (as we assumed 16 is when one is counted as an adult?), especially when the owner suggested we were trying to deceive him which was as far from the truth as one could get and not the level of customer service we would expect from someone in this industry.

As well as all the bank charges for all the transfers... as mentioned in another review, we felt the money they took for electricity and water unfair. As the wedding was in April the AC wasn't used throughout and as we were paying for additional people, we thought appropriate extra allowance be made for them, however it wasn't as far as we know. We were extremely paranoid about extra charges after the treatment we'd received from the very 'business minded' David previous to arrival, thus lights were always turned off when leaving a room and showers kept to a minimum, however, we were charged considerably for these amenities.

Two glasses were broke during the stay to which they charged us for a full set of 12 which was confusing as the glasses didn't match and some were chipped and cracked before our arrival. To top it off and to sum up the way finances are conducted, when they returned the deposit, my husband didn't count it until he was in the car (I know, stupid!) and low and behold there was €5 missing. Only €5 I know but on top of everything else we felt like the whole thing was a scam!

Cleaning was sub standard on arrival. After we complained they came back however our wedding photographer came over the day we moved in and even his first comment was "I hope they're going to clean this before the wedding!". They leave a mop and bucket but it's not ideal arriving at a luxury villa and getting straight into the sweeping and cleaning.

There's a dank musty smell lower down in the house as well so not great for guests staying in the bedroom downstairs.

We went to Malta to get married and wanted to keep everything as stress free as possible, for the guests as well as us. Sadly, renting these villa's was a huge mistake but once you're locked in you're committed so be sure before paying the deposit.

All in all, bar the bad customer service, additional unforeseen charges and cleaning issues they are nice villa's and we enjoyed lying by the pool (Was a bit too cold to get in during our stay!!). There's plenty of parking (We had a number of hire cars between us... there's nothing within walking distance) and awesome views. Would I stay there again? Absolutely not. If they were managed differently, possibly, however we missed the luxuries hotels have to offer of clean rooms and towels daily and in St Julian's and Sliema where we've stayed many times before, and where the majority of our guests stayed, you can get a lot more for your money with much better accessibility to shops, cafes and restaurants.

Maybe we just had bad luck, however what should have been an enjoyable experience, our Australian and English families staying together, meeting for the first time and excited about our wedding turned into a stressful nightmare. We wish anyone staying here the best of luck and strongly hope and pray you don't have a similar experience to us.
