“Great Hotel. We loved it and we'll be back”
Reviewed 29 June 2011

The Hilton Malta is located on the sea front of st. Julian adjacant to a small bay. The location is excellent full of restaurants and night life. The Hotel room was very speciouse overlooking the meditirenian sea. The check in was friendly and fast. it was a very nice gesture upon arrival to recieve a glass of cented cold water as it was a hot day. The concierge staff of the Hotel are charming people. Eduard and Mario both very helpful and knowledgeable. Anything you need they will get it for you with a smile. We happened to stay in the executive floor which had a lavish and comfortable lounge with food and drinks served complimentry through out the day from breakfast to dawn. a real quality experience.
We have used nearly all the hotel facilities but the outstanding ones are:1. the large pools and sea deck. Worth mentioning is Fabio at the pool restaurant who despite the fact the restaurant was closing did not deny us from eating a verylate lunch .2. The Oceana restaurant in which we had great breakfast with large variety of items difficult to count.Do not forget to look for and talk to Stewart the chef that prepares the eggs in the morning while you are waiting for it. what a charming fellow. At the evening the restaurant transforms into a great place to have a casual and informal dinner whether it is sea food or meat. The Highlight of our culinary experience was the the Thai restaurant. What a great place to be. Entering the restaurant you are moved into another world . you feel you are at the heart of thailand. the details of service and the taste of the food was imeculate. We had a great time and experience in the Hotel and we recommend it all; heartedly.

We stayed at the Hotel Hilton for 5 nights in May . It was our honeymoon so we were hoping for something special, and we got it. Room fantastic ,we were upgraded on arrival and decided to pay extra for using the business lounge, which was well worth it as free drinks and afternoon tea. Staff were excellant and efficient, food fantastic, the hotel also sent to our room a bottle of bubbly and red roses, a nice touch as did not receive this at a hotel which we actually got married in. All in all a fantastic holiday and we would love to go back as soon as we can.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hilton Malta. Lovely hotel generally, amazing food, good pool areas and good location. The only thing that let's this hotel down is that it's too corporate...whilst we were there 300 Russian delegates arrived for a 4 day Bicardi conference. The public areas became a nightmare due to overcrowding, the lifts were always busy, the pool area was almost totally closed off for 2 days and breakfast was to be avoided between certain areas. We had to be moved rooms due to the noise late at night and because we have a toddler we were trying to get to sleep. We also found 'the restaurant staff really lovely but the front desk people always looked annoyed with the simplest of questions. Would I go again? Maybe but I wouldn't be in a rush...if you like large impersonal hotels that are quite corporate then it might be for you. However if you prefer the personal touch and warmth and charm...this isn't for you.

we stayed here for a week in june and found every thing either very good or excellent... from check in to check out super!! every member of staff from maid to concierge seems to enjoy their job ,they were all friendly and polite and when we asked if we could change rooms we were given a mini tour of the hotel to look at various other rooms.the breakfast is one of the best we've had.fab choice! excellent pool side area with masses of sun beds although you still get the odd idiots laying down towels at 8.00!!!

one thought ; a complimentary bottle of water daily in the room would be nice

Arrived at the hotel at 1:30am. The receptionist was quite rude as he was stressed as 4 parties arrived at a similar time. We were given some sort of garbled directions to our room. We were surprised that there was no offer of a bellboy to assist with our bags as this was a Hilton.

We had a room with a marina view on the 2nd floor. The room was a good size but starting to show signs of wear. the bathroom was tired.

We did find that the maid rarely had our room cleaned before 3pm each day. The maid did not always remember to replace the floor towel. She would also forget to replace soaps or shampoo. Overall not a great job.

We were surprised to find that you were only given two bath towels. Again as a frequent Hilton traveller we are used to having two towels each.

The bed is very comfortable but the pillows are too soft. Again in most 5 star hotels we are used to having more than 2 pillows each so again found this a bit odd as normally decorative pillows are also included on the bed.

there is a 20 euro charge to empty the minibar. Again we have stayed in Hiltons in both the US and Australia and have never been charged.

Drinks are very expensive here and there is no free internet. As a previous review stated, go down to McDonald's and the internet is free.

The most appauling bit I found is that i had gone down to the pool on the first day alone. I had asked for two towels as my husband would be arriving at a bit later. the attendent, Sean, attempted to charge me for the 2nd towel as my husband was not with me. It did not happen any other time so not sure if he was trying to pocket some extra cash.

Generally speaking I would agree with the reviews stating that this hotel was not up to the normal Hilton standards and I would really only consider it a 3.5 - 4 star. I appreciate that we are in the midst of an economic downturn but to charge extra for everything is just a bit too much.

the seaviews are absolutely fantastic from the pools and the restaurants.

As far as the buffet breakfasts there was only one change of item in the 8 days were were there being the grilled tomato or sauted mushrooms otherwise the same items were offered each day. No variety.

The concierge was helpful but I would advise not approaching if there is a que as under pressure he can become quite rude. We went to see him on 4 occassions for advice. Twice he was polite and helpful and the others it was not a very nice experience. Considering we did meet with him 4 times he never acknowledged us or appeared to recognise us. Perhaps a bit sceptical but perhaps because we did not book any specific tours.

As we has a late evening flight 12.45pm we booked an extra nights room which we paid full price. We were told that it was not possible to book a late checkout but believe that some may have been offered it?

Overall disappointing and not what I would expect from a Hilton or a 5 star hotel.

Also beware -- if you book though a travel agent and not direct with Hilton you are not entitled to any Hilton Honours. I only booked through a travel agent because I wanted the ABTA protection but this does not matter to Hilton.

Stayed a week on business after using the Intercontinental last year. This time Hilton provided a more competitive cost for "club" rooms so we enjoyed the business lounge too providing complimentary breakfasts, teas, coffees, afternoon sandwiches and pre-dinner drinks. All the staff were very helpful and efficient. The facilities are as to be expected of the Hilton brand, super rooms. Only drawback compared to Intercontinental is that the free wi-fi access is limited to the lounges at the Hilton, if you want to use it in the room you have to pay extra.
