“Malta short break”
Reviewed 7 September 2012

We travelled to Malta for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Hilton was well located in Saint Julians Bay, with good access to the rest of the island.
On arrival we were checked in efficiently by friendly staff, the room was clean and well appointed with a welcome card and chocolates waiting for us.
The hotel facilities were good. We used the gym, which was well equipped but busy, and the pools which varied from a type of infinity pool for adults to a sea water beach side (rocky) pool.
We ate at the restaurant twice in the evening - once on a themed night where the food was via a buffet, the other a la carte. The food was well presented and of very good quality, the staff were efficient and courteous.
Overall, I would return to this hotel should we visit Malta again and would recommend it.

My second visit to this hotel. Its gone down hill...... Too many weddings, so various sections of the pool, outdoor restaurants and bar were closed to guests at various times of the day. Our room was old and not up to standard. We had requested a room with separate shower and bath, but when we checked in nothing was available but two days later we managed to up grade to an executive room, with private dining and meeting room, but this was rather old and shabby and miles away from our room. Food was terrible, cocktails watery and service OK but very slow
in pool area.
The highlight of the holiday was chartering a boat from the marina, to escape the hoards of people around the pool.

Room Tip: Request either sea view or marina, both are noisy at night either from hotel or surrounding hotels h...

Dear MissesN,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, it constantly assists us in improving our service.

Our hotel caters for resort and corporate business, during the summer months. While I wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused with regards to the noise, I would like you to note that all outside entertainment provided at the hotel is regulated to certain number of decibels and I can confirm that it was acceptable for the time of the night.

As you may know the hotel features both classic and contemporary rooms and I have noted your preference of a contemporary room. We would like to update your profile with your requests, so I would greatly appreciate if you could contact me personally so that I can add your preferences.

Kind Regards

Matthias

The hotel was gorgeous with 5 amazing pools. The restaurants had lovely, friendly staff and the connection to the water sports shack was perfect and great for my teenagers.
The hotel was so good that we barely got out to see the rest of Malta! The room was nice and the TV had channels in many different languages to suit guests from all over the world.
A perfect holiday get-away.

We had an executive room, make sure you request the modernised rooms which are wonderful. The beds are a delight and make sure you ask for sea view.
Staff are brilliant and although it is a very large hotel it feels friendly and personal

Plenty of space around the swimming pools so no need to get up early to put your towels down!
In a good location for aSt Julien area with good selection of restaurants bars and clubs.
Only 20 mins from Airport.

The Hilton is a very good choice for families and business with excellent facilities for both including 4 very nice pools, excellent buffet breakfast and good executive business lounge. It is certainly better than the Westin and in a better position but it has its limitations.

The configuration of the hotel is complex with the newer section 2 lifts from the pool and a long walk around dark passages. Try and avoid the 5th floor rooms as you will find a never ending stream of people going past your door at all hours making their way to the lifts.

Also for a 5 star hotel it is surprising that the towels are tiny, there is no automatic turndown service and no free wifi for executive rooms other than in the lounge (and the wifi is patchy any way)

These are minor gripes though and the Hilton is a very comfortable base to explore Malta or just relax around the pool.

Went for one week at the end of Aug 12 - lovely time, got free up grade! Used the gym - big but a little dated but more than adequate for a hotel gym, indoor poor, again good but some refurb to the steps happening, steam room also going through a refurb. Had a massage in the spa which was lovely and all the staff in the health suite very welcoming, friendly and professional. In fact every single member of staff from reception to cleaners to bar staff all very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Outdoor pools - did not use main family pool but good size adult only pool by Gazebo restaurant but spent most the time round the relaxation pool in the Mekanti beach club - very spacious, quiet, lovely sea location (shame about the ugly fencing). Only fault was the drain round the edge of the pool needed a good clean but this may have been because it was towards the end of the season.
Good food in all restaurants especially the blue elephant. Massive variety at breakfast which does get busy but everything replenished constantly.
Room was spacious and modern it was only when you look closely that along some corridors the wallpaper is peeling a little or there is the odd damp patch on the ceiling, walls scuffed in the rooms - all very clean but could do with some updating/ tidying up in places. Having said that I would definitely go back again

Room Tip: We went for a sea view as there are a lot of boats always passing - you may end up looking over a ca...

Just been on our holidays to this hotel. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are lovely with lots of space and very clean. Breakfast was varied and excellent. We ate in all of the restaurants which were excellent, our two children ate free (hotel policy) and were very welcome, we were really impressed.

The outside pools and facilities are very good, with some pools specifically aimed at families and a couple primarily for adults. I think the only complaint I would have is that the staff at beach pool Merkanti were sometimes not very responsive when we tried to order and occasionally ignored us, several attempts were required to order drinks and food to our sun beds, but I appreciate it was very busy.

The hotel is well located overlooking Portomasso Marina and a very short walk to St Julians bay and lots of lovely restaurants.

On the whole would highly recommend this hotel, it's a must visit place!
