Hilton Malta
Ranked #3 of 33 Hotels in Saint Julian's
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Excellent position in one of the most interesting areas in Malta (St. Julian). close to Casinò, to Portomaso bay (good restaurants out there) and Spinola Bay (other good restaurants also). Very comfortable, big rooms, reasonable price. Free wi-fi in business center while charged in the room (too expensive: several volume rates)

Room Tip: higher floors as the area is crowded of young people, especially during summertime.

After reading lots of reviews for the best hotel to stay for our short visit fo Malta, hubby and I decided the Hilton Malta was the one. As soon as we arrived we knew we had made the right choice....this hotel is impressive.

The staff at the entrance and at reception were very welcoming. Our executive room with full sea view was ready for us and check-in only took a matter of minutes. Our room was allocated on the 6th floor and on entering what impressed us most of all was the space and how modern it was.

We had requested an executive room because I wanted the choice of the walk-in shower....and wow what a shower. As well as a powerful overhead shower there is also a seperate handheld one. The bath was large and deep with another handheld shower attachment and the toilet is separated with a glass door. There are two modern round washbasins, two tall mirrors and a shaving mirror.

The bed was kingsize with lots of comfortable pillows and if you prefer a different type of pillow then there is a pillow menu. There is an easy to use and see clock radio, and ample wardrobe/drawer space. Coffee and tea making facilities are provided and minibar. The room safe is in the wardrobe but at floor level so may be a problem with someone who is not able to bend very easily. Two comfy armchairs and round low table were also in our room. Floor to ceiling sliding doors lead out to a large balcony which was lovely to sit out on. The flatscreen TV had a wide variety of channels and most importantly I could watch English football in our room instead of some bar.

Breakfast is served in the Oceana restaurant from 7am - 10.30am every morning. We usually arrived around 9 and there were always lots of tables available. There is a wide selection of hot and cold food and everything is well laid out. The hot food was nice and hot and there is a station where they cooked your eggs or omlettes to your liking. Staff in the restaurant were also very friendly and helpful. I recommend a meal at the Blue Elephant - we ate there twice because the food was so delicious. Nearby are plenty of shops, bars and a supermarket and a selection of restaurants around the Marina which can be accessed by steps or lifts.

We didn't use the enormous indoor swimming pool (which children are not allowed to use after 6pm) or the gym and squash court.

The bus stop for the No.12 or 13 to Sliema is within walking distance and the two hop on hop off tour bus companies pick up right outside the entrance to the hotel.

We will certainly be returning to Malta and will stay at the Hilton Malta again and will also recommend it to friends and family when they visit this beautiful island.

Room Tip: Get an executive room on a high floor

We've just got back from a w'end in Malta, and have got to say the Hilton was exemplary on multiple accounts. Although we had to wait a couple of hours to check in (we wanted a contemporary room) we were upgraded, and it was well worth the wait. The views of the sea and balcony, the stunning features in the room and bathroom, the amazing breakfast spread - All were fantastic.

This is what we found to be a true 5 star experience, with very accommodating staff, especially Vaida on Reception and the portly gentleman at the Guest Services desk. We were here earlier on work, and switched over to the Hilton for pleasure - whilst experiencing Malta for the first time.

It's a short walk away from fantastic restaurants on the Marina Portomaso (straight out of the hotel and to the left) and not too far from St Julian's nightlife. If you want to explore Malta, the bus tours often stop at the hotel to collect you. All in all one of the Best! Couldn't fault it.

Room Tip: Go for a contemporary room as opposed to "classic", and ask for a sea view if possible!

Unfortunately I only had the pleasure to stay here for one night. A lovely hotel with grand decor and good facilities such as the indoor and outdoor pool, gym etc. The hotel was in a very good location in St. Julians and can even be spotted when in Valetta!

The staff I encountered were extremely friendly and genuine, particularly the receptionist and bar staff on the ground floor.

Clean room and good view of the outdoor pool.

The bed was super comfy, a real pity I couldn't stay longer.

Didn't try any of the restaurants as plenty of local restaurants nearby to try.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool side view

On a recent business trip to Malta, I became very ill and had to be hospitalized while my wife and 3 year old daughter were in Australia. Hearing that one of her guests was admitted to hospital, Joanne Piccinino, who is a manager at the Hilton, made immediate contact with me. Joanne offered to me to be my contact in Malta since I did not have family with me. Every other day or so Joanne reached out to me to ensure that I was alright. She even had my personal items in my room collected and delivered to the hospital in addition to shopping for a few items that I needed while I was confined to my hospital bed. Finally, when my wife and daughter were able to get to Malta, she ensured they were made comfortable and even provided a special rate for the room and for meals. In a time when you really do not know what level of service you will get at any hotel, I have to say that the service that Joanne and the Hilton Malta provided was way beyond my expectation.

We stayed here as part of our wedding and honeymoon. We didn't have the wedding itself in the hotel, but stayed there for 10 days.
We had to move rooms at one point due to noisy teenagers being located beside us and they has us awake early the morning after our wedding singing loud music. Reception dealt with the situation quickly however and moved us to an equivalent room.
Felt the staff could be a little rude at times and the service in the lobby bar area was extremely slow at times. On my last day I decided to have a nice afternoon tea selection before we departed for the airport. We explained we would be leaving in about 40 minutes and would this be adequate time to be served and eat it. They assured us it would but we did not receive it until 5 minutes before we left! In hindsight I should not have paid.

Apart from this, the facilities and the hotel itself was amazing. I loved staying here so much and would love to return some day. The Oceania Restaurant had beautiful food and the breakfast selection was the best I ever had. The chef on the omelette/egg bar was so friendly and polite every morning and I had his omelette every morning!

We also availed of some spa treatments and they were very good!

Concierge was also very helpful and helped us arrange a day trip to Gozo.

I would definitely recommend this hotel!

It's not possible to say anything bad about Hilton Malta, it's the perfect hotel in the perfect location with the perfect staff and perfect service. Have visited every year since it first opened and enjoyed every visit, it is impossible to identify any problems with this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea/pool view if possible but Marina is equally interesting.
