“Relaxing and peaceful stay”
Reviewed 7 May 2009

This was our first stay in Malta and we only chose a 5-star due to a great deal with Expedia.

Room temperature - there is a built-in fan in the room but this didn't seem to do a great deal and I found it too hot at night, this may be because the hotel air con was set too high for me.

Breakfast buffet was excellent - pastries, cakes, rolls, toast, cheese, ham, fruit salad, strawberries, jams, compotes, cereals, nuts, yoghurt, biscuits, fried, scrambled and boiled eggs, beans, sausages, bacon, potatoes, mushrooms; fast and effiecient service.

During our stay there were several weddings but we saw very little of the wedding guests, and a 3-day conference which did involve a poster display and reception in the lobby (perhaps a little intrusive but also a chance to relish the fact we were away from work!) and a rather loud party in the Bridge Bar (when closed the windows did block most of the noise).

We ate in the Bistro restaurant once - small with an intimate atmosphere and delicious deserts - and at the 3-course evening buffet in the Kontiki restaurant once - we were one of only 5 tables occupied in a huge room with enough food to feed an army making the atmosphere a little stifled but service excellent and food good (EUR 28). The Kontiki restaurant was closed 3 days to cater for the weddings/conference.

Outside area - freshwater pool at the top of the 'horseshoe' formed by the hotel, and 2 seawater pools set amongst rockeries/palms near the Edge restaurant (open from May). It was very quiet in late April/early May as the weather wasn't hot enough for many southern Europeans, and only the very hardy were braving the unheated pools. Area very clean and tidy, no unpleasant smells and with a breeze that would be very welcome in the summer sun.

Location - the Radisson is at the end of a street dominated by the San Gorg and Marina hotels, it is a steep walk down to St George's Bay (a small sandy beach with a cafe and beach shop), next to that is Paceville and a shopping complex, and beyond that the more appealing Spinola Bay with a wide range of restaurants and pretty setting. It cost approx EUR 20 for the taxi from the airport. There is a bus stop 300m from the hotel where you can get the 66 to Sliema or Valetta for EUR 0.47.

Rooms - very spacious with lots of storage space, the double beds were 'zipped' together singles, the balcony was large and had a seaview but most did not get any sun and the chairs were flimsy plastic.

This was our 2nd stay in the Radisson, 3rd trip to Malta due to having friends on the island.
We stayed for 3 nights, and in general were happy with our experience. Our room faced northwest so had a great sea view. We were on the 2nd floor ( reception floor ) and on this floor the balconies are very large. Other people have commented, quite rightly, on the positives, so I have to mention a couple of the things that grated a little. The bathroom could have been cleaner, particuarly around the back of the toilet. It wasn't dirty as such, but a bit of bleach wouldn't have done any harm. Rest of the room was fine. A few more coat hangers would have been nice.
The breakfast tables were always strewn with crumbs. Where usually hotel staff either change the table cloth, or more usually give it a brush off, this wasn't happeneing here. As it was all the tables, and they do have senior staff walking around, it looks like the serving staff are not required to do this as part of the table change.
Think of the Radisson more as a 4 star than 5 star, and you'll be very happy.
If you are considering Malta as a holiday destination (Malta has very few redeeming features), then the Radisson is a well priced, good quality hotel. Do not, under any circumstances, stay in a hotel less than 4 star, they are usually appalling. Malta is cheap enough to afford a 4 star, or better still, 5 star hotel.

My father and I stayed in this hotel for four nights in March. This was our first visit to Malta. I have stayed in many different Radisson Hotels, this one was not the best one but still ok.

The good points:

A free drink when checking in, nice gesture
Large and clean room
Free broadband
Decent breakfast
Nice outdoors pools (unfortunately it was to cold for using the outdoors pools during our stay)

Weak points:

No refuse pail in the room
The bathroom was a little bit tired
An automated mini-bar with way to expensive contents, it was not possible to place your own stuff in the mini-bar.

The location was ok, furthest out in St Julians but still only 10 minutes walk to the restaurants in St Julians. One day we did walk all the way from Valetta to the hotel, it took some time but it was a nice walk. The public bus which stopped just up the road from the hotel cost about 0.50 EUR to Valetta. The bus trip took about 30 minutes.

The most bizarre incident during our stay was when some Italians tried to dry their boots in the Sauna, maybe they thought that it was a drying room?

The hotel is located 15 minutes (walk) away from St Julians commercial district and bus terminal but is well connected to Sliema and Valetta by a private shuttle and a public bus (up the hill, every 30 minutes). We payed our taxi about 20 euros from/to the airport.

We spent a full week there with our children and enjoyed the large room (with two extras beds !), the sea view and calm (only noise from our room was the waves outside...), the restaurants (great service, but the breakfast buffet was a bit boring after 7 days) and the pools (indoor in April, but several outdoor pools for summer).

The hotel staff have always been very helpfull and friendly, doing their best to arrange our needs, either for transportation, baby food, etc...

I had a great stay at the Radisson in Malta and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is planning to visit the island. The room was great since apart from being up to standard and clean it was also really nicely decorated, not to mention the breathtaking view! The staff was very friendly and helpful whenever I needed any advice. Last but not least, I enjoyed the great food offered in all their restaurants - absolutely delicious!

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of St Julian, which suited us fine. But unless you are keen walker you will need a car or take a bus (which are convenient), to get anywhere!
The food was very good and staff were very courteous and helpful.
We stayed half board but got in a bit of a tangle over our meal on the Friday evening. On Fridays and Saturdays we were supposed to eat in the Kontiki restaurant rather than the Bistro, but had not been advised of this and ate in the Bistro as usual!! An attempt was made to charge us for the meal! Fortunately the matter was resolved amicably - we didn't pay!!
The rooms were well appointed and generally clean but a bit more use of the vacuum cleaner would have got rid of the dust around the skirting boards. (A bit more vacuuming in the corridors would not have gone amiss either!) Also the grouting in the bathroom needed a complete revamp.
Our room was located on the southwest side of the hotel and in this part of the hotel you won't need a wakeup call after 07.30 because that is when the external airconditioning ventilation system springs into action - and it's quite noisy!! This would have been a nuisance had we wished to sit/sunbathe on the balcony during the day, but fortunately did not affect us as we were out all day. The system shut down at about 22.00 hrs, so it did not interfere with a peaceful night!
We thought the drinks were expensive. Perhaps one should expect this in a 4/5 star hotel - and the £/Euro exchange rate doesn't help. It would have been a nice touch to have a complimentary bottle of water on the dinner table.

Went to Malta for a few days and stayed at the Radisson Bay Point. The hotel was perched right on the edge of the sea with great views over the med from your balcony.
The room was very nice and was a good size with a bathroom to match.

The only problem was that the maid must have vacumed about once a week given the amount of dust and debris under the bed and furniture.

The hotel ran buses to Valetta and some surrounding towns enabling you to visit for the day without too much fuss.

Overall I found the hotel the best part of the trip as I was not overly impressed with Malta itself. Maybe because it was cold and raining but I have no wish to return in a hurry.
