“Not a 3 star!”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

Apparently this hotel is classed as a 3 star. I certainly wouldn't agree with that, but it's not as bad as many people made out in their reviews. I went expecting the worst, and instead got poor.

The lifts broke down frequently, but everywhere seemed reasonably clean.

Pros
It's cheap.

Cons
1) It's overrun by teens and early twenty somethings that think it is perfectly acceptable to run about shouting and banging doors in the corridor until 6am....every night! If you are not wanting to do that yourself then don't go here.
2) They changed the drink rules in the all-inclusive DURING the holiday. Taking a few of the cocktails off, presumably to lessen the cost to themselves.
3) You don't get your room serviced every day. When you DO get it services they take away your towels but don't leave clean ones. The two times we did get our room serviced during our 7 day stay I had to go to reception to ask for towels. The other day they tried to service the room just after 8am which was, quite simply, a ludicrous time to service a room!
4) Lifts breaking down frequently. We used the stairs instead after the first couple of days.

The staff? Seemed friendly enough to me. I think some of the customers were way worse!

As my cons outweigh my pros I am fully expecting the carbon copy response of I should have highlighted things to the staff. Not much they can do about point 1, someone else did for point 2, I did for point 3 and point 4 should be fairly obvious!

Room Tip: Take ear plugs as you won't sleep without them. If you book this hotel then note that it is not...

Dear Guest thankyou for your comments

As you are aware you booked an economically friendly holiday in , St Julians 3* hotel, however I am sure that you will appreciate that star ratings in all countries differ and our hotels are rated according to Malta ‘s guide lines .

I would like to highlight that as per contract the rooms are serviced every other day, with ample supply of towels etc available from reception for outside housekeeping hours .

As you may have noticed we are installing new elevators as one of the many improvements

I am pleased you found our hotel good value for money and our staff friendly,

I assure you that we take all feedback , possitive or otherwise , in hand in order to assertain the areas we need to improve.

Kind regards

lifts never work when they do you get stuck in them and have to climb out
we was two familys that went and had the worst time ever
got barged abused including children by Italian schools and teachers that arrived
there was no where to sit and eat had to eat in the cold by the pool
not enough cutlery for everyone
students running up and down screaming and shouting all night
rooms only got cleaned if you found a cleaner and asked
reception staff were rude
power cuts
food was appaling not enough food for every one
have just logged a complaint with my tour operator logged a complaint with the managers whilst out there but they was not interested

Stayed at this hotel Sunday to Thursday first thing is that you are charged £40 deposit cash only, secondly it's like a youth hostel we had six groups of teenagers aged 12-17 so you can imagine- alarms going off at 3am, doors banging and noise. Food is very basic. One towel is provided and whilst the room is cleaned they only make the bed!!! In summary it's does what it says on the tin!!!!

Our room in St George's was tired and dated but cleaned with fresh towels left 5 days out of the 7 that we were there so cleanliness was not an issue for us. Food was adequate and the quality was decent, there was a different roast every day, fish, chicken or an alternative meat on offer, pasta, pizza, soup, salads. Vegetarian could be requested. Ice cream and cakes every day also. I don't know what more people need or expect from an all inclusive menu. Breakfast was good and always warm. The ladies serving were very pleasant. The hotel was well located in a central part of st julians. The walk between the two hotels took about a minute. The down side, no hairdryer or tea or coffee making facilities, tv didn't work, the decor needs updated, the lifts would be a problem if you were on a high floor. Noisy Russian youth football team kicking doors day and night but that was not the hotels fault. All in all we did not expect the Ritz for what we paid and feel we got our money's worth from the holiday. Maybe we just struck lucky with our room but for the right price we would probably use this hotel again as our base to visit Malta.

Room Tip: We stayed in 511 it was fine with a pool view.
