“Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2012

We booked through Travel Republic & requested Top Floor as well as paying for Twin Room with direct sea view & balcony. We paid a litle extra for a bigger room that slept 3. (although only 2 of us) When we arrived, & the room was allocated, I asked is it top floor? We were advised no, 4th Floor.(5 floors in hotel) I said I requested Top Floor & paid for Direct sea view. But the girl just kept saying it's 4th floor, with no attempt to check if there were rooms on requested floor. My husband & I were tired, so we pushed it no further thinking maybe they were full. When we arrived at the room, accompanied by Joseph (who was very helpful) it was a double bed not twin as requested, and the balcony had a side sea view over the bay, with buildings in front of us & facing an old derilict Lido. with a 100meter strech of sea between. We were there for only a week, so we decided to accept it as the room was quite big & the bed was bigger than usual. It was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Literally!! The first night, my husband got about 15 mozzy bites!! He kept waking up looking for them. The next night, we asked for a Plug in, & bought some spray, which I sprayed through the air con grills & left the air con on low overnight. (No Air con, Just the fans) This seemed to help.
The food at breakfast was varied & plentiful. The fried eggs were luke warm & they are cooked en mass & left in a tray under hot lights. But always plenty to eat. Evening meal, not so good. They were catered more for the large private parties that were held on various nights. I ended up just having salad & bread rolls for 2 nights. There was an Italian restuaraunt on the grounds & an American Diner, Henry J Beans, which the hotel gives you a voucher for so you get 15 euros each off your meal if you go there. The steak I had was cooked to perfection!! And they have a happy hour from 18.00 - 19.30 every day. Cocktails were lovely & buy one get 1 free!!.
I did not realise when booking that the indoor pool & Jacuzi etc, was in the sister hotel. Although you are allowed to use the facilities, it is a little bit of a walk, if you went there in your swimsuit etc. as the weather wasn't too great. Free wi-fi in the lobby & free internet as well. There is a lot of building work going on in Malta. Even down from the hotel. (not so much the noise bothered me, just everywhere you went there was a building site. The local bars down the hill being no exception. There is a bit of an incline to get back to hotel each time, so please bear that in mind when booking. Hotel bus takes you to either Sliema or Valetta at 9.30 evey day, but don't pick up until 5.30pm. The bus stop is a fair walk away. The open top bus tour stops outside the hotel & for 15 euros, you can take a tour of the Island, on a hop on hop off basis. The hotel has a lot of outdoor seating which is really nice wether permitting.
All in all the hotel was OK. I would have given a 3 star if it wasn't for The American Diner. But I doubt if I would stay there again.

I have stayed in 3 different hotels in Malta for me this would be third, its sister hotel next door is much nicer and better kept, also more expensive, however wshen in the marina you always feel like the person in business class been looked down on from those in first class. The rooms need a bit of updating. Staff is friendly and breakfast is nice.if you have a few extra pounds in your pocket go for the San Gorg next door.

just returned from a 4 day break.wanted to stay near a main town but a short way out from the action.
this place is perfect.
the hotel is at the quiet end of st,georges bay but no more than a five minute walk from numerous bars, restaurants and clubs etc.we last stayed in st.julians 30 years ago and although we have been to malta on many occasions have never ventured back to this area until now.we did not recognise the place.a once quiet fishing village has been transformed into a party area for 12 year olds that can party 24/7.although we now prefer a quieter life it was nice to be within a short walk of the main shopping area as at this time of year sunbathing is not at the top of the list.
the hotel itself is a very good quality 4 star with 5 star staff that could not do enough for you.we also found the prices to be much the same as we paid in the town and the quality of food ( 5 or 6 ) eating outlets were of very good quality
would not hesitate to return in the future..

Room Tip: all rooms seem to overlook the bay,but the higher the better

We've just returned from a very relaxing and comfortable stay at the Marina Hotel, from the minute we arrived Stevan on reception was extremely welcoming and made sure that our room was to our satisfaction and that we were fully aware of the dining options available to us. Our bedroom was on the 5th floor with a great view over the bay, could do with a fresh paint job and the bathroom needed some refurbishment but in general it was fine. We choose to eat in the hotel 6 nights out of 7 and would recommend their voucher packages allowing you to dine in all three restaurants at a very reasonable price. Stevan and colleagues thank you for a great stay....

This is a 1st class hotel. While there is as expected international cuisine, normal 4 star fixtures and fittings. What makes this hotel outstanding is the staff. They are friendly, caring and considerate. We have just had our 2nd visit to this hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a relaxing, reviving holiday.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view room on an upper floor, the views are amazing.

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights recently. The room was spacious and clean, we had a good size balcony with a wonderful sea view. The staff were friendly and helpful, arranging car hire and advising us were to go.
As we celebrated our wedding anniversary while there the staff provided us with a lovely cake and some sparkling wine, we really appreciated this gesture. The location was ideal for us as we like a quiet hotel, however for those seeking pubs and discos a short walk takes one to a lively area. I loved Malta, we hired a car for 4 days and visited most of the island. I do hope to return to Malta and would gladly stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have better views

Location, location, location simply fantastic with the Mediterranean lapping beside the hotel. We had a sea view room looking out to a bay. We had the window slightly ajar at night, to let in the breeze and hear the waves. It was so wonderful.

Breakfast and lunch is a sumptious spread. The chef is a kindly man who even gave us tips on how to cook a certain dish.

Staff were nice and the food at their outlet 'The Marina' is very good as well.

Nearby is Baystreet Shopping Mall - 10 mins walk away. Next to the mall is the clubbing/pub street where all the watering holes are located.
