“Very good holiday hotel”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

We had a very pleasant eleven day stay in July 2013. Hotel was very good value for money, with good selection of restaurants, good pool areas and direct access to the sea. We had a very roomy suite, ideal for two plus teenager, and the executive lounge was an excellent benefit. Hotel is fairly quiet at night, and only downside is that service in the lobby bar can be slow. Would certainly return.

We stayed at this hotel, room 318 for two weeks in July on a bed & breakfast basis. The general areas of the hotel are deserving of their 5 star rating, the staff were helpful although some of them had poor English skills. Unfortunately the remainder of the hotel is no better than a 3 star, tired and in need of updating particularly the bathrooms. As already reported by a previous guest you can not regulate the hot & cold water in the shower which also had little pressure, suggest management turn down the hot water slightly, reported nothing done.
The following faults were all reported but little or no action was carried out.
Hotel bedroom door could not be locked from the inside no action taken. The Wardrobe door would not close properly hinges need adjusting. The carpet was not cleaned for ten days until we complained. Shower head came off the wall this was fixed. Curtain full of dust reported nothing done. Bedroom chairs are all in need of replacing most of their springs have gone.
We were disappointed with the overall standard of this hotel, as long time visitors to Malta we were disappointed for the island because we thought The Corinthia was one of the leading hotels on the island, but it is certainly not 5 star. How ever the splendid view from the bedrooms did help with the disappointment. We were offered an up grade after 11 days but declined with just three days to go. I have made this review in the hope that the company will not let their standards continue to drop and put an action plan together. My advise to future guests is book an executive room at extra cost if you want 5 star service and comfort.

Room Tip: Choose an executive room, hot cooked extras at breakfast can be ordered.

My teenage son and I went to Malta to complete our PADI diving certificate. The travel agency booked us into the Corinthia Hotel and when the bus drove up to the hotel entrance I have to say I was delighted... real WOW factor when you went through the door. The check-in was very quick and our bags were whisked off to our room. Very friendly porter escorted us to our room and again the room looked impressive and the view from the balcony was stunning. However we soon realised that the two separate beds had been zipped together, and as my teenage son definitely didn't want to share a bed (massive though it was) with his mum, the porter organised for the beds to be re-done whilst we nipped out for a quick bite to eat. This helpfulness by the staff was prevalent all through our holiday - a great credit to the hotel. We particularly appreciated the drinks reception we were invited to by the General Manager. The canapés were stunning and the drink plentiful. Again lovely to chat to Pat and Robert (Concierge), great ambassadors for the hotel. Robert in particular was very helpful in suggesting places to go and restaurants to try.The pools were well looked after although as in all hotels these days, the beds are taken fairly early on - huge amount of towels out but very few people actually lying on them! Additional lovely touches - staff coming round the pool and cleaning your sunglasses, offering free cool drinks twice a day and handing out ice-cold handtowels twice a day. There was a lovely selection for breakfast and the sausages were particularly tasty. My son particularly appreciated the freshly made waffles every morning! Complaints? Very few..... the seats on the balcony should be replaced as they were not very comfy and the fridge wasn't particularly cold with rusty bits at the back but on the whole, I was very pleased with the accommodation but special mention must go to the staff who were responsible for allowing us to enjoy it even more! Definitely plan to return.

Room Tip: Take a higher up room (we were on 3rd floor) and ask for room overlooking swimming pool/sea view whi...

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated like we were the only people in the hotel ! The staff were fantastic, very helpful, service was impeccable and they really made our stay a memory. Room was lovely, air conditioning was a real saviour, stayed on even when you weren't in the room so when you returned to get out of the beautiful sunshine for a moment of relaxing it was extra refreshing! The views are stunning and the local town is only a short stroll away where you will find all of your traditional local shops. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, covers all ends of the spectrum from families to romantic getaways...

We stayed here for 2 weeks in July and had a fantastic time! Hotel is of a very high standard, staff were very friendly and attentive, our room was cleaned daily and spotless.
Breakfast buffet was excellent, everything you would want and more, again staff went out of their way to be nice without being overbearing. Huge choice of everything!
Pool area was well staffed and kept very clean- we really enjoyed the attention to detail with complimentary soft drinks and nibbles... Not to mention the cold towels and sunglasses cleaning!

Overall we had a fantastic stay and will be recommending this hotel to everyone!

The staff are a credit to the hotel!

Having stayed at others in the brand and read the reviews we were really looking forward to a week at this hotel. The room was fine, two large beds and a balcony looking across the bay towards Valletta. The main issue was the food, we had chosen half board and the main hotel restaurant left a lot to be desired. The first evening was a Maltese Buffet / BBQ, the food as plentiful but it was difficult to work out what it was. The staff were clearly under training and the restaurant manager spent a considerable amount of time explaining the error of their ways in front of guests. The other dining options in the hotel looked interesting so we tried to use the food voucher exchange system to eat in the grill, only to be told that the venue would be closed because of a wedding! There was a major issue with sun bed reservation if you didn't have you towels out by 8.30 getting a bed in the pool area exclusively for hotel guests was difficult. Although the hotel boasts three pools and a beach lido only two pools are exclusively for hotel guests. The other pool and the beach are open to the public, although hotel services are available. Were given information at breakfast about excursions, booking via the concierge, we found one we liked and went to book, but were a little surprised that in a 5* hotel this was a cash only transaction, There were some good points, we booked the courtesy car which was over full and a complimentary taxi was provided. However we have decided that this isn't our style of hotel, too big and impersonal.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay.

Please accept my sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations. This is not our usual standard.

It was unfortunate that you could not try our award winning restaurant – The Grill 3301 and I will discuss the matter of better trained staff with the Fra Martino Restaurant Manager for him to take the necessary corrective action so as to avoid such incidents in the future.

We have over 1,000 sunbeds, I am sorry that you did not find a space to your liking.

On a positive note, I am glad that our Concierge offered the services of a taxi when the courtesy bus was full, even though you had reserved your places.

We value your business very much and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing the Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay. I sincerely hope that you will give us the chance in the future to prove that we can do better than your experience suggests.

We had a really nice stay here in this hotel on a b&b basis.
The room was large with 2 double beds, we had a lovely balcony with stunning sea views and looking over the 3 lovely pools. We had maid service twice a day and the standards were very good. The only issue with our room is it had a distinct smell of sewerage, on entering the room it was very strong but we soon got used to it thankfully but the room did smell.
The meals, quality and choice from all the hotels eating places were very good indeed we enjoyed eating in all of them most days. The breakfast included was great with lots of choice and helpful staff. I did feel the bottled water at the oasis was overpriced and we would of liked to of had an evening meal inside the hotel but again I thought the evening buffet was overpriced at €29.99 per person.
The hotel has a very good spa and gym which is free to use. We paid for some treatments too.
The pool area was fab, plenty of beds, towels provided each day and throughout the day cold towels, sunglasses cleaned, drinks and snacks were given out free of charge which was a very nice touch indeed. All the staff around the pool and spa were superb.
On the 2nd evening we were invited to meet the management of the hotel for drinks and snacks which was so nice. We spoke lots to the manager of all the in house hotel restaurants, he was so friendly and helpful with knowledge of Malta and where to visit and also the assistant front of house manager was very friendly and also nice to talk to. It gave a very nice personal touch thank you.
