This hotel was great for my family. The pool was perfect for my 1, 2 and 4 year olds and the family room was spacious, cool and well maintained. The location in Paceville suits younger people, but with the double glazing, you can't hear the nightlife. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and breakfast was of excellent quality. Overall this is a lovely hotel and highly recommended.

Before we went we emailed the hotel several times with many questions and the responses we got were fantastic. A big thank you to Itiana Zahra, Nicola Busuttil and Ruth Micallef who sorted and clarified many things for us before and on arrival.

The room we were given was a panoramic deluxe which overall was fab, however we felt the room often felt damp and the sheets too, but this could be from the air con. We did have some ants in the bed one night but thankfully only once (I hope), so this did out me off and wanted the sheets changed the next day, however missed the room cleaning team the next day as they generally didn't come to late.

We felt the balconys would have been perfect if we had the sun in then most of the day, however the views more than made up for it.

The bathroom needed some attention around the bath and the shower cubicle had quite a gap in it, so often got swamped after we both had a shower.

The main hotel area was lovely and had many options for eating etc, something that wouldve been good wouldve been some brochures/guides on Malta or at least free WiFi to look up something's for the Island.

Yes it's near many bars etc. however once you were in the hotel you would never have known this and Wel felt this was the best of both worlds. Would come again

X

The Intercontinental in St. Julian's Bay, Malta is an older hotel with a five star rating. Despite it's age the hotel is well furnished and guests will only occasionally encounter the limitations of the underlying fabric. On arrival we were upgraded to a slightly better room with a garden view but only because our original room was not ready. There were a number of trainees on the reception and a few minor errors at this stage meant I had to go back to reception later in the week to provide them with documentation. But not the end of the world. The room was of a high standard, nicely decorated with a balcony looking out onto the internal hotel garden. Cleaning and maintenance was done well each day, and all the room facilities ( TV, bathroom, etc ) worked well. The hotel also has a huge and high quality gym which is a real asset. The indoor pool is also pleasant. However, the outdoor roof top pool is simply too small and old to cater well for the number of guests and sometimes didn't look that inviting given the high usage. Likewise the restaurant used for breakfast just cannot cope with the volume of guests and queues are a regular occurrence and some temporary food shortages. The hotel has a range of other restaurants which have good reputations and we enjoyed the sea food at the beachside Paranga restaurant, although it was pricey.the hotel boasts a private beach but this is just a corner of a cramped beach front in the bay which is very busy and too many of the hotel's sun umbrellas were out of commission which made shade a bit hard to come by. The area around the hotel would once have been an asset but is now packed with nightclubs and shopping centres. So many guests will have to sleep with background noise from the street quite late into the night. On the flip side there are plenty of good restaurants to eat in at reasonable prices and the nearby Marina ( adjacent to the Hilton hotel ) is stunning. There is also plenty of shopping for those who want designer brands. Staff service was variable with some pretty offhand pool attendants, some keen to please but rather poorly trained reception staff, as well as some very experienced and helpful staff who were keen to make sure we had a good stay. The experience was too mixed to be able to recommend it, but to be fair it was still a pleasant break / passable holiday. You can't blame the hotel for the fact that Malta has steadily lost its charm over the years and turned itself into another alsoran holiday destination.

Its not an Intercontinental standard. I was in a club room, nothing to say. The lounge was very good in terms of services offered. Bad service to the Narcis pool restaurant, all people are seasonal employee with no idea how to manage services.
Bad "Al Fresco" experience (restaurant at 7th floor) very bad cooking of prawns, no customer attentions.
Average experience to the asian restaurant, but even here so bad customer care.
The hotel need to revaluate all the customer care.

My wife, daughter, and I spent a week in in a "terraced suite" in August. The offering included breakfast as well as access to an executive lounge for all, except between 15:00 and 19:30, when children are not allowed in. They have a rooftop pool and are within walking distance to a small private beach.

The room itself was more than adequate adequate for our stay, although even on the 14th floor it had an ant problem that required periodic attention. Prior to check-in we were able to arrange for a DVD player, but you have to ask.

The pool is not large and in the heat of the summer is quite crowded. The same is true for the beach, but more-so. The pool water itself has a high salt content. There was NOT a substantial beach towel reservation problem, but you did have to lay down something by lunch.

Breakfast in the lounge is adequate but not inspiring. It consists of a small cold buffet with lots of fruit, smoked salmon, varies meats, as well as the makings of most of a full British breakfast (no black pudding).

The location of the hotel is somewhat challenging for a family, in that it's right in the middle of the party district. This might be okay for others, but we had to go to some lengths to avoid some of the more seedy portions of the neighborhood that abut the hotel.

The kids' program is also fairly limited, to the point that we didn't use it. There is no mini-disco, for instance, but then there is only limited entertainment in the hotel itself.

The restaurants downstairs are reasonably priced and have reasonable food. The restaurant on the pool deck seems to have a love affair with mayonnaise, and the service is, well, relaxed. On the whole we preferred eating in the next bay next to the Hilton.

The staff were quite pleasant and helpful. However, the concierge service doesn't do so well for lunch picks.

This is not your typical Interconti First of all, I had a fantastic room. It was perfectly clean, very spacious and nicely decorated. But there are three things I absolutely disliked about this place:
- Location: The hotel is right in the night club area. In the mornings you can often find drunk people sleeping in the streets right around the hotel. Not a pretty sight.
- Service: The staff are friendly but there are not enough around. Check-in and check-out took forever. Can't remember waiting in line for more than 15 minutes each time.
- Busy: This is a big hotel and there are only six elevators. I often ended up waiting and waiting and waiting. This place is just busy.
Overall, I was quite disappointed. The location is probably the biggest problem. I ended up switching hotels as I was looking for some relaxation.

Stayed here for 11 nights at the end of July-beginning of August 2012. Myself and wife and two children ages 15 and 11. We stayed in a panoramic club room on the 12th room over looking the pool and gardens. The room was very clean and well maintained with robes and slippers. The room was cleaned daily to a excellent standard with plenty of fresh towels and toiletries. Complimentary safe in room for peace of mind was good, and the air con was excellent, as Malta was burning everyday! Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice, and the staff were very attentive, especially Joseph and Jeffrey! We ate twice in Sopranos and enjoyed a chinease on our final day in Eastern Breeze. We had club lounge access which was excellent with complimentary drinks and food. This was great and the staff were friendly and only too happy to help. Hotel over-all was excellent and we would like to say a thankyou to Annalise Poulton which made our last day of our holiday a memorable experience with her kind hospitality. We have no hesitation in reccomending this hotel and we will be reurning in the future.
