this hotel excels in every way nothing is too much trouble the service and the food are excellent
Try the club facilities on floor 15 which overlooks the bay and you can enjoy a wonderful breakfast in the sun outside watching the world go by
The room was always clean
The various eateries are are super the Pranga sea bass in rock salt is what you call super to say the least
The other eateries are just as good try the rib eye in the Carriissa or the Pranga

The hotel has all the possible amenities. The personnel is qualified and very gentle and collaborative. The real problems that he rooms are old and the materass and the moquette smell humidity, believe me it is very annoying and there is nothing that the reception can do to Helton this issue. The hotels perfect if you have kids, strongly recommended to avoid the restaurant next door (not am intercontinental property). Try to avoid to reserve a room n the front facade on bay road, it is super noisy.

We had another good stay at this hotel, cant fault it at all. We booked a terraced suite and had use of the club lounge, Pepe on reception there looked after us, he was very helpful and friendly. In fact we are looking as to when we can go back.

I traveled to IC Malta for a conference being held at a different hotel but in St. Julian's. I choose this hotel because it was only a 5 minute walk from where I needed to go each day and because other hotels including the host hotel had already filled up. Fortunately, and thanks to Twitter, I was able to mention @ICMalta in a tweet asking to match a more aggressive rate and after a brief private conversation over DM they matched the rate another nearby hotel was offering. Bonus points for being technologically with the program.

All Pros and two minor immaterial Cons:

Pro- Location in St. Julian's is great. If you're there to party, the hotel is literally 20 meters from a sort of "club alley". The alley doesnt have a street name but on Google Maps you can zoom way in and see a line with a bunch of drinking and eating establishments that is meters north of the hotel. The alley gets insanely wild during what I guess is considered the "mid" season as it was busy each night. I actually opted to not walk down it a few nights after dinner just to avoid the club promoters and drunken insanity. But if you're there for that, it's right around the corner and plenty of it. If not, it's easily avoidable. The hotel is also minutes from a beach (of which they have a private slice all to their own), plenty of eating locations, gift shops, etc. You can also just start to explore by walking South/South-East down into Sliema and further via ferry to old Valletta. The whole area is very safe and the location of the hotel makes it easy to go many places.

Pro- Service in general was good, didnt encounter it much but brief interactions with staff were always very good and friendly. If you have status with Intercontinental or if you book certain rooms they check you in at a premium desk on the 15th floor which every morning has a private breakfast buffet with a stellar view. There's also an evening wine reception with equally good views.

Pro- Room location if you get a room with a mini balcony that faces north, you have an amazing view from sunrise to sunset of the water and city; it's literally fantastic. Other rooms facing other parts of the city or adjacent buildings may not be that good, in fact might face some ever-present construction nearby. There are however a plethura of north facing rooms and ones with balconies so shoot for that if possible. Cleanliness, TV, hair dryer, iron, in room safe, etc all good and function at the standard you'd expect from IC.
Minor Con- The general furnishings of the hotel seem cheap. The bed frame, chairs, and especially the artwork in the room are just not the same spec as the quality of the hotel. A minor revamp on that would be huge but it's easily forgotten and not creepy or anything.

Immaterial Con- They have a gigantic outdoor pool on the 10th floor, great views of the ocean and city, lots of chairs for lounging, food, and a bar -in the morning and mid day. I happened to get back around 4pm while there's still at least 2 hours of light left and they were pretty much closing up on the pool deck. Bar staff shooting the breeze, kitchen closed, very few chairs remaining with majority being picked up for cleaning service. I consider this immaterial as it was just a preference they kept things going while daylight persisted. If you're there to tan and chill, 9-15:00 you've got it.

If I could do a 4.5 score I would, its just that early pool closing and weird furnishings that dont go to 5.

This is a high end hotel located in the central part of St. Julian. The bar street is literary around the corner. At first we were given a room at the lower floors with an excellent view over the garden. Unfortunately the high humidity combined with the carpeted floor gave the room a quite bad smell of mold. We asked for a new room and received one a newly refurbished room. This one also had a strange smell to it but it was far better than the old room. As a nice gesture the hotel sent us a bottle of wine for the trouble. As for the hotel in general, its a high end hotel with excellent staff who possible couldn't be any more friendly or helpful. As a guest of the hotel you can use Malta largest gym located on the 5th floor along with the pool and spa (although you have to go trough the garden to get to the gyms entrance) The breakfast was excellent with a variety of things to choose from. All the was from egg and bacon to omelettes, fresh fruit and cereals. This is an excellent hotel BUT due to the smell in both our rooms we will not, at this time, recommend it.

Although not the most picturesque of towns, the InterCon does provide a more refine atmosphere to that of Paceville. If you have not been to Paceville – think trashy clubs, late night donner kebabs mixed in with the scent of apple tobacco coming from the Shisha Pipes. It is opposite a newish mall but I can imagine in the height of the season, the rooms facing the street must suffer a little from noise but we had no issue at all in October.

The hotel must have to work very hard to overcome its location especially for families and older travellers. And I think it does an excellent job in making you feel welcome, safe and happy during your holidays considering the Meriden and Westin are in the prettier neighbourhoods of St Juliens. But it is an oasis in Paceville - once through their doors, the neon lights are quickly forgotten.

The hotel has everything you could need for a family holiday, great outdoor and indoor swimming, sauna, steam room and a kids clubs which was quite popular when we went. The spa treatment is amazing and my husband had a massage in their dedicate Hamman, which he said was extraordinary.

We did have one issue – one of the night the neighbours above us where being a little noisy but the staff sorted out the issue with efficiency and diplomacy. In fact, everyone at the hotel was very friendly, considerate with small children and very helpful.

Where the hotel is falling behind is simply on its appearance. The rooms does look dated, decor needs freshening up, sheets and towels were a little worn… just the little short falls which are enough to notice and note however the price is very reasonable for a 5 star hotel.

A thoroughly enjoyable week in Malta at the Intercontinental Hotel which was enhanced by the really friendly and helpful staff. Facilities in the hotel are outstanding, particularly the range of restaurants, (all reasonably priced for high quality cuisine)and the fantastic roof pool which is really safe for young children. Despite its location in the midst of the nightlife of St Julian's, the hotel remained an oasis of calm and peace even late at night. Our room was a bit tired and smelt a little of damp, which was soon overcome by throwing open the balcony doors to let in the warm Malta air. The concierge are font of really useful information.
breakfast was incredibly busy, yet the staff remained courteous and helpful throughout. Great range breakfast options to satisfy all tastes.
The spa underdelivered in that they provided a satisfactory that standard service at a very high price. For the price we would have expected much more; for example the offer of a shower before a massage.
Would I stay there again? Definitely yes
