InterContinental Malta
Ranked #12 of 33 Hotels in Saint Julian's
Certificate of Excellence

We visited the intercontinental at Christmas with my dad, his partner, my partner and my brother. We arrived at a breathtaking hotel in the centre of Saint Julian's. The staff were extremely welcoming and the space was clean and well set out. The rooms were very modern with plenty of space for five people to be comfortable. The cooking facilities for a self catering were a bit poor as we didn't have an oven only a hob. The view from our balcony looked out onto a hidden courtyard which was beautiful and well kept. The location was amazing as we were directly across the road from a shopping mall that never seemed to close so you could shop or eat at any time of the night. There is a bus stop at the top of the road which gives you easy access to all surrounding areas. The facilities within the hotel are exceptional with an indoor pool and outdoor roof top pool with amazing views of the bay. As we went in winter there was few guests but the temperatures still remained warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirt. Would certainly recommend this hotel and would choose to stay there again in the future.

We went to the intercontinental in Malta for our sixth wedding anniversary with high expectations and we were not disappointed. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly (particularly the concierge team - special thanks to Robert). Both hotel and staff are 5-star as you would expect from a hotel bearing the intercontinental name. Our room was very spacious, with very good air-con.; the bed massive; TV, ironing board, plenty of cupboard and storage space, mini bar; bathroom with large bath and shower; great view of the inner garden. The hotel has a private beach with WiFi - so you can Face-Book while you relax on the beach - every guest gets a large sun-shade; lounger and beach towel. It is a tiny walk from the hotel exit but only as long as the walk from our room to the hotel foyer. This location is also a drop-off point for the brilliant Malta hop-on and hop-off tours of the Island, which will take you to the capital and other spots of tourist and historical interest; they run all day (17 euros pp for a day pass). For a little extra; executive lounge access at the intercontinental was good value: breakfast (full cooked or continental) until 11 am; and complimentary soft drinks (and beer) throughout the day with the hard stuff being complimentary between 5:30 - 7:30 pm (just after the beach; just before you head out for the evening). Papers, internet and the view over the town and the bay is all there as well. Although located in Paceville, which is the bar and night-club centre of Malta, our hotel room was very quiet, we didn't hear a thing from there. We spent our wedding anniversary dinner at the Waterbiscuit restaurant in the hotel (private booth - best table in the house!), which was fabulous and we were looked after perfectly by the sommelier. We also had dinner at the intercontinental's Pananga beach restaurant overlooking the beautiful marine view of St. George's bay. Location is spot on. Just across from the hotel there is a handy mall and just down from the hotel there is also a fine dining Italian restaurant. Beyond that there are a number of small eating outlets catering for those in a hurry and also the Hugo Lounge (a sport bar at the bottom of the club run), about 50-100 m from the hotel itself. Over the other side of St. Georges bay there are some smaller, quieter bars and restaurants serving some really excellent rabbit with the local Malta red for a very reasonable price. If you are looking for somewhere jumping then Paceville is the place; otherwise, over the hill on the other side (10 minute walk) delivers you into St. Julien's Bay, with a number of quieter but nevertheless very good restaurants and bars in yet another beautiful bay setting.

In summary; would we go back? Too right we would!

I was not sure whether to give this hotel 3 or 4 stars - it really is a quite nice hotel, where me and my girlfriend spent 4 nights in March of 2014.
Rooms are big and comfortable, but sound-proofing between rooms leave a little to be desired, as loud neighbors can be easily heard.
The facilities of the hotel are excellent, and makes you almost not need to leave the hotel itself - gym is big and nice, and hotel room wifi works well.

The area in which the hotel is is quite built up and not the best, though a nice marina with excellent restaurants are close by. The area is really the biggest downer on the hotel.

Overall, I think this hotel is quite nice and pleasant, and would recommend it as long as you are not expecting a beach holiday and are prepared that you may occasionally hear your neighbors.

On our first visit to Malta, we could, with hindsight, have chosen better. The hotel itself was pretty good (though more 4 star than 5 star), but I was disappointed with St Julien. Perhaps if I was 20-something rather than 50-something, I would have enjoyed the surrounding bars and very busy nightlife, but as it was, we just found it too noisy. We were also disappointed that the hotel's beach was a five minute walk away, at the side of a road!! Not somewhere we would return to, or recommend.

A really good quality hotel, with very friendly staff and a perfect location if you want to be in the busy part of St Julian's. The spa is a definate recommendation and the Turkish bath a must try!!!!

Service very pleasant, room had everything for a short business stay including easy free internet access, but the street outside, heaving with holiday humanity. Luckily the effect of quadruple glazing cut out the noise so sleep was possible. Breakfast efficiently done.

Stayed here for a quick weekend escape. Hotel is faultless and spotless with fantastic staff.

However, I would recommend catching one of the very cheap local buses to go to other areas or walk to actual St Julian's bay if you want to see the real Malta. The immediate area is not very nice unless you like club 18-30 holidays such as Magalluf or Kavos if you catch my drift. Don't bother with the restaurants in the immediate area unless you want tasteless food.
