“A truly five star hotel”
Reviewed 7 September 2010

Stayed for a couple of nights during my honeymoon at this wonderful hotel. Staff were expecting us at the door; gave us a beautiful room, which was immaculately clean and especially decorated for us! Spacious room, and the best pillows ever!!! Bathroom was immaculate! Breakfast in the morning was brilliant – large fresh selection with a friendly service. Nothing was ever a problem for the staff who constantly served us with a smile. Visited also the Paranga restaurant – romantic atmosphere and delicious fresh fish! Spent some days at the private beach and at the roof top pool – a truly relaxing time. Area around the hotel is rather lively with numerous bars and clubs and young people, however you will not hear a sound at the hotel. Would definitely recommend it to other honeymooners!! :)

The Hotel was graded 5 star I was a little dissapointed because in the brochure there was a walk in shower only to find a hand held attached to the barth. In addition from my balcony only 4 metres away there was considerable building work taking place. I happened to mention this to reception and the repsonse was amazing. I was offered alternatives but as there was a huge conference being held in Malta other rooms were at a premium. Not to be beaten, the staff who were extremely courteous and totally professional ensured that my stay would be memeorable. The effort to compensate for my dissapointment did not finsish at trying to relocate me. They treated my wife and I as very special guests and did everything in their power to make our trip as luxurious and enjoyable as possible.
I was extremely impressed by all the staff from the restaurant staf to the ladies who cleaned our room to the guest relations staff who really impressed.
This is the type of service that I expect but don't always get. It is clear the Intercontinental share my philosophy on customer needs and delivers.

Do not stay at this supposedly 5 star hotel in an absolutely dreadful noisy dirty location equivalent to downtown Blackpool or Essex in the U.K. This hotel should be downgraded to a commercial two star Holiday Inn or lower. The management were unhelpful inadequate
and argumentative. The front of house manager an absolute buffoon, and the general
manager a pathetic and totally useless administrator. Neither one has any clue as to a first class guest relations attitude. The food is dreadful and room service is charged at an extra £l0.00.
Notices at the poolside inform you NOT to bring in outside snacks and a charge is added for any extra cutlery required (outrageous). Many other guests have complained about
the accommodation booked and trouble with the management in trying to change the rooms as they insist on added payment and argue for hours. An appalling apathetic
rude and indifferent attitude is encountered in this horrible hotel.

insisting on a further added payment !!!

We arrived at Hotel after good flight & transfer to be shown two disgusting smelly DAMP rooms overlooking a deserted car park & rubble across a busy street!!! We had booked & paid for two luxury suites close to one another: one with twin bed another for single use with king size bed, with sea view. After nearly 4 hours of remonstrating with the ridulously inadequate duty manager and the general manager we had no option but to take two rooms NOT what we had booked and possibly change after 2 - 3 days. They had wanted to charge us EXTRA for the very rooms we had booked! We booked through TRAVEL REPUBLIC who I will NEVER use again as they totally mispresented the rooms available and did not even bother to help out when I called them in London. The the hotel agreed ONE complimentary meal and subsequently LOCKED us out of our rooms saying we had left the restaurant without paying. The guest relations person Jennifer lied & harassed us - needless to say we are making a case/claim and have consulted the Britsih Consulate/Malta Tourist Board etc...

we have just returned from a 2 week holiday here with 3 teenagers. we have been to the resort 2 years ago and stayed at the Westin, we came here for a change.
Overall the rooms were disappointing. the carpets were filthy, after having a shower your feet are dirty again from walking around the room. the bathroms are nice and large and we had a good view out on to the main street. that said we had daily problems. the TV in one room didnt work for most of the holiday, i reported this and it was replaced but that set also kept switching off and i gave up ringing reception as i felt like with all the other problems i was constantly raising problems and it was starting to get us down. i had to ask for cofee, toiletries, including toilet roll daily and although this was sometimes rectified it was never in both rooms and it was frustrating to return every day and find such poor housekeeping. I choose hotels with certain facilities in the rooms so not having them was a big deal for us.The housekeeping was the most inconsistent i have come accross, both our rooms were cleaned to very different standards every day and always items were mis placed. we never returned to the same room twice. the beds were never made completely and only on our first day had the cushions been bothered to be placed on the bed, i suspect the linen wasnt changed even when i requested it. I left my camerain my dressing gown pocket and left it on the bed., the cleaner removed it for the 1st time all holiday and put it in the wash!! when i spoke to reception i was told that although the dressng gowns should be put in the bath (also on the hotel card in the room) if you wished them to be washed ,some guests put them in the room so it wasn't the cleaners fault. I lost precious holiday photos not to mention my camera and we didnt even get an appolgy from the hotel. everyone at reception was very poite to me but i never had any problem resolved and i felt i had to fight to recieve the standard of rooms we had booked. On the plus the gym is great, a little dark but very well equiped and never too busy. lots of sundeds nicely padded and no one doing silly reserving of beds. pool is shallow but pretty pool deck area. Breakfast was nice with good variety. We ate twice in the Eastern Breeze restaurant for convenience but it was disappointing. Hotel location is great and the noise at night was never a problem.
The reception area lacks any comfortable seating area, the chairs are mixed in with the bar/eating area and our children were made to feel so unfortable sitting there without food they waited for us outside the hotel. we also arrived at 11 in the morning and had to wait till 4.30pm for our rooms when they should have been available at 3pm. No appology for this., an offer to give us a chilled drink for our inconvenience would have gone a long way after a 12hr journey. Final note the fish restaurant just outside the hotel to the right 'Sciacca' loks nice but the food is poor, VERY expensive, the staff rude and they are out to rip you off. i think they pray on guests of the hotel and if you pick fresh fish from out of the display they charge what they like-could be £50! and it really wasnt very nice. worst meal experience in Malta ever. mostly the food is reasonable priced and the hotel offers far better value than the Sciacca.

Stayed in a family suite, with 2 rooms.Ample space for 2 adultls, 2 teenage kids and one of 7. Great holiday and good value for a family of 5 compared to other hotels where you will need to book two separate rooms.Had free access to club facilities on 15th floor meaning free drinks, throughout the day and breakfast.. No problems with sun beds at the pool or beach, but the pool was a bit shallow.
Resort itself is okay .
Staff very good, our son had his 7th birthday on holiday, and without promting we came back to our room in the afternoon to discover a birthday cake and non alcoholic cocktails for us all (at no cost)
Some comments have been made re damp. We had no problems, but as you walk through to the pool on the 10th floor there was a smell of damp, so may be an issue
Would definately return .

Nice hotel. Roomy. Big and nice rooms and good level of cleanliness. Average position - close to a beach, but not a great one - but too close to tweens attractions if you are with your family.

Just a couple of remarks: I paid more to get a room with a balcony sea facing, but the balcony was 1/2 square meter, not even a chair would fit in, and the sea was barely visible, so definitely not worth the $ I spent on top; when I told the concierge, they could not change it nor they could they the additional € off my charge.

Overall the breakfast was good, but if you want a cappuccino or an espresso you have to pay it separately, something you don'expect from a 5stars 250€ x night hotel; besides, you don't expect to get frozen fruits at breakfast, tasteless when not just rotten or unedible because not ripe.

In general, definitely overpriced.
