“Disappointing”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

Disappointing. This really is not a 5* hotel, but it is a perfectly average 4* hotel.

It is certainly not a resort – it is a city hotel next to a busy road/junction and bay. There are no open areas apart from the 12th floor roof pool & strips of sunbathing areas, plus the very small 9th floor roof terrace.

Positives:
- easy walking distance to Spinola Bay restaurants (& Paceville if you fancy the nightlife for 15-21 year olds)
- adequate sized rooms (even Classic)
- you can get the hop on/hop off buses very nearby

Negatives:
- classic rooms have appalling views of the neighbouring tatty buildings, breeze block walls & building site
- the roof pool has views of the rows of grey metal capacitors on the neighbouring building one end and the phone masts the other end (but no problem with phone reception!)
- half of the umbrellas by the pool are torn or in need of repair
- rubbish is collected too infrequently poolside so it blows around in the wind
- there is no wifi anywhere in the building except in the lobby (hence, you’ll see people loitering here with their phones, tablets & laptops)
- the breakfast is adequate but tinned pears & stale rolls on the Sunday morning were again not 5*
- seeing the barman in The Villa bar/restaurant chopping lemon with a cigarette in his hand make you wonder what the food hygiene might be like generally

My family and I stayed at the Le Meridien from June 19th to June 24th in 2012. The entire staff of the hotel made the stay absolutely wonderful. We had a great vacation at the Le Meridien. The facilities are great (can't beat the roof-top pool and the roof-top sundeck). My two sons enjoyed the Malta buffet on Friday evening, including the food and dancing. The junior suit your hotel provided was big enough for making the living arrangement easy for my wife and I (the kids slept far away on the sofa couch). Plus the balcony view was tremendous. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony, watching the ocean, the church view, etc.

I would also like to especially thank the staff in the Executive Lounge.

They treated us great, served us great, every morning for breakfast and in the late afternoon/early evening.

We are so very glad that we chose your hotel over the Westin. After visiting the Westin (far away from everything), and experiencing your hotel, I know we made the right choice picking your hotel to stay at.

My wife and I miss staying at this hotel. It's in the best spot in St. Julians, the most upscale social town in Malta.

I have previous stayed at Le Meridiens in Rio de Janeiro and Bali (unfortunately, both were eventually sold to different hotel groups), and including the Le Meridien in Malta, I have always been treated by the staff so well, and the facilities so good, that each stay was wonderful and life-long memorable.

I hope the Le Meridien in Malta stays part of Starwood for a long time.

Room Tip: Make sure you get full or partial ocean view. Anything less takes away from the room and your stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June and were very impressed with the service. For spg members, this is GREAT value for money and for $45 + 2,000 points per night we were able to get a very close to 5 star quality hotel. As a gold member they also give you free breakfast and access to the concierge lounge with has an open bar everyday between 4 and 7 with some small appetisers. They will make you breakfast to order, anything you want and the service is impeccable. We also got a bottle of champagne and some biscuits as a welcome gift.
We were upgraded to a seaview room with a balcony with a spendid view of the coast which looks very lovely at night. The rooftop pool has a great view as well, although it is a bit small and the sunbeds go quickly.
The room is spacious by european standards, full bathroom with a jacuuzi and a shower, balcony. The only thing we werent happy with was that it has 2 double beds instead of a king size and they were put next to each other to make it seem like a king bed. Not a big deal for me but my boyfriend was not happy with that.
The location is a short walk away on either side from a number of great restaurants with maltese or italian food. some steakhouses as well. The bus stop is across the street from the hotel and can take you into the city. However it does take about an hour to get to Valetta and can take up to 1.5/2 hours if you want to go elsewhere on the island (golden bay/blue lagoon). There are no real sandy beaches closeby, just rocky ones with these man made pools dug into the sea that are kinda neat to walk around. The indoor pool in the hotel is very nice as well if you want a break from the sun. Its heated and has a whirlpool and sauna as well.
Overall I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Seaview! the elevator is VERY slow so it would be helpful if you were on the 9th or 12th floor (9th...

Stayed for 5 nights and although it was pleasant enough, in a good position, it is certainly not a 5 star quality hotel. I paid for an upgrade to an executive suite which was not really value for money. The view was excellent but the room was quite spartan and too big for the small airconditioning unit to cope. I had to align the vents manually as the remote didn't work properly. The carpet was stained, the door to the fridge was jammed and couldn't be opened, the plunger in the basin was bent and inoperable and the bar of soap had been used. The basic shower cosmetics were also not replenished regularly. We visited the pool area on the top floor which we found to be dirty with left over food on the tables. The service in the Ku De Ta restaurant was extremely slow although the quality of food was good. Waiting for lifts was a nightmare, I heard many guests complaining about them. Breakfast selection was very good but I was not impressed to see the chef frying eggs in a greasy pan over a small burner - I stood there and watched him serve several guests and not once did he pour out the old oil or clean the frying pan. The fried bacon in the warmer was floating in a pool of grease. The tables on the deck outside the breakfast area still had half filled glasses of wine on them from a function from the previous evening at 8.30am. Not the hygiene standards you would expect from a 5-star hotel.

Room Tip: Do not take the upgrade to an executive suite unless you intend to use the exclusive lounge daily (o...

We stayed at LeMeridien back in May and it was really great.
The room was spacious and we were offered to upgrade to Seaview for a special price - it was sooo worth it. We had a room high up with a nice balcony and a superb view.
Cleanliness was impecable. I would like to highlight that there is both shower and bathtub and that the toilet is seperate.
Since it was still quiet cold and windy, we made full use of the Spa and the indoor pool. In short: This area has set the bar higher for what I look for in hotel Spas. This time we did not have a chance for a massage but we will back for one.
I can highly recommend the dinner buffet - Maltese Night and Fish Night were superb.
All staff was exceptionally friendly.
Miguel and Esther at Reception and Francesca at breakfast were shining examples.
This is the perfect place to relax especially when it is not yet outdoor season.
We will be back fur sure.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a Seaview

The hotel itself is a good four star not a five star hotel.
I stayed there during the end of Wimbledon but the hotel could not show the tennis because it did not have Sky sports anywhere in the hotel. The TV in the room was a CRT, very basic selection of channels. The roof top pool was small by any standard (put 15 people in the pool it was full) the indoor pool was part of the SPA was good as were the facilities in the SPA. The sea views , yes you got a sea view but you also got the fumes from the traffic below, the hotel is in front of the main road. The worst feature of the hotel was the mini bar which had micro switches under each item once removed is billed to your account. The fridges are contracted out. A small 1/4 water €5:50 where a litre from the supermarket is €1.20.To have your fridge cleaned out will cost €5 per day of use. Breakfast is five star, dinner, is buffet (Theme nights) style is hit and miss depending on taste.

Room Tip: Before booking ask about hidden costs such as the fridge. Inner city views don't exist. Sea view...

We stayed at the Le Meridien in St. Julians for 5 nights with our 8 month old daughter. We enjoyed our stay, the room was quite big and location of the hotel is excellent, numerous restaurants in easy walking distance along the sea promenade. Free parking was a definite plus for us, but there is also a bus stop right in front of the hotel.
The pool and spa area was ok, the traffic from the sports club users from outside the hotel who all had to pass the pool area was a little annoying though.
Room service was fast and food was tasty and reasonably priced.
Would recommend.
