Hotel Juliani is indeed in a perfect location - easy access to the fab Malta buses, walking distance to shops and a stone's throw from the water. We spent three nights in room 402, and whilst we did enjoy our time in Malta, the hotel didn't meet expectations.

The junior suite was furnished in an interesting way ... as if they had removed furniture. Therefore there was no sofa (just two smallish chairs and a table) and the television wasn't even in direct line of sight of the beds or the chairs, which made it difficult to watch.

Our biggest concern was the quality of service recieved from the front desk. For a busy little hotel, we were amazed that there only ever seemed to be one person working, so more than once when we had a query we had to wait - sometimes for 10 minutes.

Although they were helpful in organising tours for us and booking cars, we were also disappointed that they didn't have US adaptors even though it was advertised (we had to go purchase one, when I had one at home I would have brought) and they had no take-out or delivery menus that we could have used after a long day out in the sun looking at the sights.

On the plus side, in addition to a great location, the room was very clean, and it was great that they restocked it every morning with shampoo, soap, etc.

First things first, if you only read the first paragraph of TripAdvisor reviews then the important thing is - if you stay here and are given a room ending with a 9, don't accept it, and ask to be moved. Or you'll spend your holiday next to the elevators, and spend all night listening to the motors and other machinery which will be right through the wall from you. The plumbing also seems to run past these rooms, and any time somebody turns on a tap or pulls the flush in another room you'll know about it.

We asked to be moved after a night of this, and - to be fair - they did offer us a better room with a "city view" (see photos), which was much nicer - bigger and brighter and quieter. It didn't have a safe (it has a couple of holes in the back of the wardrobe where one used to be ....), and it did have a no smoking sign, which our first room didn't (it had an ashtray instead). This doesn't bother us as we only requested non-smoking with our booking out of preference, but anybody with health problems or similar needs to be aware that if you request a non-smoking room you won't always get it.

As mentioned, the room was big and bright, well-presented, but (in truth) wouldn't be out of place in a Novotel or Ibis. Just putting a fancy picture on the wall and a couple of scatter cushions on the bed doesn't suddenly turn it into a boutique hotel, and can't justify its steep prices.

Didn't eat in the restaurant, and the one day we went up to the roof to use the pool it was shut. We probably won't go back to Malta, and if we did we probably wouldn't stay here.

If you're lucky enough to get a room overlooking Spinola Bay the view would be gorgeous, mind.

After all the glowing reviews I have read about this hotel I haven't got much more to add except that it's all true! We were greeted by the manager when we arrived who promptly informed us they have managed to upgrade my parents' seaview room to a junior seaview suite. After such a flying start it just got better and better over the 5 days we've stayed at this lovely hotel.

There are only 44 rooms at this hotel and I think only 3 on each floor has seaview; of these one is a junior suite and they were about four times the size of the non-seaview rooms!

The decor was tasteful and fresh and beautifully maintained on a day to day basis. High speed internet was complimentary throughout. The hotel is located within mere steps of a number of local eateries and bars but we never felt unsafe during our stay. Papparazzi was one of favourite restaurants and I would highly recommend that too!

Although the hotel has occasional special offers on their rooms, I would highly recommend having a look at the Malta Direct website first. It is a division of Air Malta and we've managed to save 33% of the cost plus breakfast thrown in by booking through them instead of the hotel.

For an extra £24 per room per night I would highly recommend booking at least a room with seaview if not one of the seaview suites; the views over the bay are amazing.

This was one of the best boutique hotels, we have ever stayed at. The views from the balcony overlooking the sea were fantastic. The people working at the hotel couldn't be more accommodating. Especially, Eliaham(sp.) she was wonderful. A great sense of humor and always ready to help. The breakfast was great, and plenty of it. If you go to Malta make sure to order tickets in advance to the Hypogeum. It is not to be missed.
Also, visit the catacombs which are unreal. Also, take the jeep ride to Gozo, which is quite a fun adventure. All in all Malta is an amazing place. The temples, and history are worth the trip.

Spent 5 days in the Hotel Juliani with my wife for an off season break last week. From the moment of our arrival, including a refreshing welcoming drink, to our departure we always felt welcome and "at home". Our room (602) had a balcony overlooking the sea and it it was wonderful to sit out there from time to time just absorbing the view. It was also useful in the evenings as we could see over to to some of the nearby restaurants to check if they were busy or not. From our limited experience (this was our 2nd visit) St Julians is the nicest place to stay in Malta. There is a lovely walk beside the sea all the way round to Sliema (about 20 minutes) and probably further on towards Valletta. Just outside the hotel is a bus stop for transport to key places of interest such as Valletta, Mdina and Gozo (ferry). All the hotel staff we had dealings with were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a decent range of options and my essentials of freshly brewed coffee and fresh orange juice available. I can't think of anything negative to say about the Hotel Juliani and would heartily reccommend it to anyone travelling to Malta.

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 weeks in Malta where we stayed at the Juliani. You have already read from others about the hotel accommodation views proximity to everywhere etc, but people also make a big difference to a hotel and Erika and Georgios did! They are the perfect couple, young friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them, something which permeates throughout the hotel staff. There are many beautiful big hotels in Malta, but we wanted a small intimate hotel and found it! I had my mother with me who was not terribly mobile and it was perfect, the staff looked after her like family, and she was also upgraded to a beautiful sea view room. From the girls in Reception Ilham and Caroline and the coffee shop & bar staff Martin, what a sweetie! Jason, and Charles, who was like a mini whirlwind bobbing from bar to kitchen to bedrooms, this hotel was just a joy to stay in.

I must mention their in house restaurant Zest, run with great efficiency by the extremely charming Allan, and his staff, who were absolutely brilliant, especially the beautiful girls – Rose, Xixi and Viegh and the excellent guys Lester David and Little Angel (yes seriously that’s his name, and he was!) AND on top of that… the food was absolutely sensational, but book – they have a first rate reputation locally!

We eventually dragged ourselves away from Zest and tried various restaurants in St Julian’s which were all excellent. BUT a short walk towards Sliema took us to a traditional old Maltese house called the Barracuda, which apart from having beautiful romantic sea views and wonderful food, is owned by the most charming and truly lovely Maltese couple Pat and Walter.

We are already planning our next break at the Juliani, the sooner the better!!
