“Best hotel experience”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

We just came back from St Julian where we stayed 8 nights in Hotel Rokna. At first we got a room on the first floor and we found it little bit noisy because of the street in front of the hotel. They were very nice and helpful at the reception, they promised us to change it next day. We got a room with balcony on the second floor, which was much nicer and less noisy.
The family which runs the hotel is very nice and helpful, nothing is too much for them. The rooms had excellent air-conditioning, safe, TV, fridge and hair dryer. The towels were changed every day and the room was always clean. If you need an umbrella or ironing board they give you free of charge. Beach towels are EUR 1 for all your stay. In the lobby there are lots of information leaflets about Malta and also they can organize taxi pick-ups and round-trips on the islands.
The pizza restaurant is the oldest in Malta and one of the most famous. We ate four times there and food was always excellent and the waiters most friendly and talkative. Breakfast was adequate, fruit juices (4 kind), milk, tea (yogi tea's good selection), 5 kind of Musli, sweet pastry, 3-4 kind of bread, toasted as well if you want, cheese, ham, salami, apple, orange, 4 kind of jam, butter. On the third day they already knew what we drink and when they saw us, they brought it already.
Location is great, small sandy beach is just 5 min. walk, bus stop to Valletta, Golden Bay, Mosta 1 min., Cafe's, restaurant's all around, supermarket 20 meters away. Even a church and a small chapel to pray is on the opposite side of the street.
The only downside is the noise from the street in front of the hotel, but you can get used to it, night is relatively good, can be loud music from cars sometimes. It is a lively place, not a quiet relaxing one.
Overall experience was excellent,we would highly recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: If you want less noise, choose from the third floor and above, if you want balcony make sure you res...

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights from 13th Sept 2012 after moving from a bad apartment.First of all massive thanks to Fiona who sorted us out with a really nice 2 bed apartment on the 4th floor. It was lovely and clean, very spacious, great balcony with great views.Very useful fridge, hob, kettle and free electronic safe. The friendliness of the Maltese is legendary, but this hotel more than lives up to expectations, all the staff go out of their way to make you so welcome. We have stayed in lots of hotels in Malta(including the Hilton) and wouldn't hesitate in booking this hotel next year.Location is excellent, short walk to beach, marina and fishing harbour.Really nice restuarants all around-we were spoilt for choice!

Room Tip: 2nd and 4th floor corner rooms

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights at the end of July, We really enjoyed our stay and must compliment all the staff in the hotel who do a wonderful job and were always very helpful and friendly. The hotel arranged for a taxi pick us up from the airport upon arrival and take us directly to the hotel which cost 20 euro and was well worth it. The hotel is situated in St Julian's close to all the nightlife of Paceville but not too close which was perfect for us. A short stroll and you were in the middle of the action. All the staff at reception were very good advising us on which trips to take and gave us maps with directions and advised us where the bus stop was.Bus number 12 or 13 will take you to Valetta and costs about 5 - 6 euros for the day for two adults. Our room was very comfortable with air con, fridge, safe and good sized balcony which we had requested upon booking and paid extra for but we were glad of it, It was very warm while we were there and it was nice to sit out on the balcony in the evenings. The bathroom was a bit on the small side but had everything we required. the room was cleaned everyday and towels replaced. Breakfast is served between 7.00 - 10.00pm daily and had a good selection of food. We also dined in the restaurant which is excellent the pizzas are gorgeous! On the last day the hotel kindly looked after our luggage for us as our flight wasnt until that evening. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay in the Rokna Hotel and I have since recommended it to many of my friends and family. Malta is a beautiful place with lots to see and do and is also very good value for money. We will be back again and will not hesitate to stay in the Rokna hotel! Thank you for making our stay memorable!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony if possible

We stayed here for one night, 2 adults and 2 teenage children. Breakfast was basic, but adequate. The room was clean, comfortable beds, excellent air conditioning. Wifi throughout the hotel. Full size fridge in the room was appreciated. We ate in the restaurant twice, the service was slow the second time, but they gave us free drinks to compensate. Food in the restaurant was good. Opposite the local supermarket (good value for money). Not far from the beach / swimming in the sea from rocks. Not far from the bus stop - travel by Arriva buses is to be recommended, air conditioned buses and at 2.60 euros per person for a day ticket, exceptional value, to wherever you would want to visit in Malta. Would use the hotel again for a short stay, not sure about a longer stay, particularly with a family.

This hotel is very well situated in St Julians near the Hilton roundabout. It is near all the nightlife of the Paceville area but is one block away so you are not in the crazy wild area and can get some sleep. The bus stop for regular buses and Sightseeing tours is only one minute from the hotel door. The room was quite small but was clean and good value for the price paid and the location. We paid extra for a room with Balcony it would have been very small without that extra space, so worth the upgrade. There is a continental buffet breakfast which is handy.
The hotel seems to be family run ad the staff are helpful. The restaurant downstairs is always busy with Maltese people which is always a good sign. The food was nice and very reasonable. I would recommend this hotel as an affordable, friendly local hotel.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a room with Balcony, highly recommended.

We needed an overnight stay in St Julian's, Malta in June and the Rokna fulfilled our every wish.
Value for money at 60 Euros, with good continental breakfast for two. Comfortable bed, fridge and good bathroom. Although deep in busy Paceville on a Friday night, we were not disturbed by the nightlife. Additionally free Wi-fi in our room. Lunch and evening meal in the attached Italian restaurant, IR Rohna, with 10% discount.
