You'll be surprised by the warm welcome and by the friendly staff. If you choose to stay out you'll have a splendid view of the marina but you'll share the view with a bunch of hungry mosquitoes. The Thai food is excellent and well served. The wines are quite ok. Take care not to get there if you're not hungry as the portions are huge. Overall it was a perfect evening and an experience that we'd like to repeat.

Having spent a fair bit of time in Thailand a visit to a Thai restaurant has to be very good to get a decent review from me. Blue Elephant ticks all the boxes in terms of decor, it is magnificent. However, the food is a mixed bag, some good and some average. The starters were good, satay nicely cooked and the sauce excellent. Spring rolls and dim sum fine. Thai fish cakes, too rubbery. The mains, duck was horrible, chewy and tasteless, beef was good, had a good taste, chicken was well spiced and the best of all the lamb masamam curry (this was amazing). Service was chaotic but that made it feel more like Thailand so no problem with that as they were very friendly. I would guess there are better Thai restaurants in Malta. It's not cheap either.

The night we went was very hot and we had a table outside. We went early (around 745pm) and within an hour it was packed outside and almost full inside. The decor is beautiful - inside and out. We were all impressed. When we arrived service was quick and they were keen, throughout the evening, to check we were happy with everything.

However some negative points
1. We didn't get prawn crackers though every other table did
2. Our wine was put a little way away from the table but then no-one came to pour it. If you aren't going to pour it, leave it on the table !
3. We had one 2 elephant dish (level of spicy-ness) which was way hotter/more spicy than our other 3 elephant dish.
4. One of the toilets was broken and the bathroom (sink, doors etc). looked like they needed a bit of maintenance. They just looked out of place as the rest of the restaurant is beautifully decorated.
5. Starters came very quickly but the main courses took ages (I imagine because it was so busy) and at this point, the level of service did drop noticeably (we didn't order dessert as it had taken so long for them to notice we had finished our main course that we left after that)

Positives
1. The food was good, some of the dishes excellent.
2. The waitresses/waiters were very polite and keen to make sure everything was ok.

The overall experience was great, so much so the children were very keen to come back here. But it's a fairly expensive night out though we didn't feel short changed.

The above negatives should be easily addressed to make it a better experience.

Having read some of the negative reviews on this site mostly from those who self indulgently try to compare non native restaurants with their experiences in Thailand I am pleased to say that they are all way off the mark. The food is Thai at it's very best. The surroundings are second to none and if you are able to sit outside to soak up the views then your night will be complete. The staff are charming and beautifully presented. I had the tom yam soup which as usual gave me that authentic bite at the back of the throat. For mains I had a spicy beef dish with noodles. The portions were huge and extremely tasty. My wife had the Massama which she said was cooked to perfection. With wine and drinks the bill came to less than 100 euros which was great value. We hope to return but with so few nights left and so many restaurants that we want to return to we may struggle. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Delicious food, very helpful and polite stuff, amazing decor (maybe the best one in Malta) and very good value for money. Although I live in Malta the last 6 years it was the first time that I visited and I will do it again.
