“Peaceful, Basic, Great Spot”
Reviewed 1 August 2011

We stayed as a couple and wanted somewhere peaceful, basic and out of the bustle of byron. This was ideal, Lovely welcoming staff, cute pool area, clean rooms - with a kind of older bali ratan feel to them, tea coffee, firidge and even basic cooking facilities. Short walk to supermarket, bakery, pub and an even shorter walk to the beautiful beach. Taxi's 20 bucks to Byron.
If you want new and modern and nighlife then don't stay but if you like quirky, clean, relaxing place out of the hustle and bustle where you can chill and listen to the wildlife and be seconds from the beach where you meet so many smily happy people and dogs, then stay here. It's lovely, and it's relaxing.

This motel was easy going and right across the road from the most amazing beach you have ever seen! Every morning we would wonder over and be there for hours- at lunch time we would walk back to the room, make up sandwiches and eat them by the balinese inspired pool area (which is absolutely lovely!). The atmosphere at the motel is relaxed and easy going and both the staff members we met were just delightful. I will be back next year for sure!

We stayed here for five nights at an exorbitant rate, because it was Easter and the last place we could find three months prior. It is at least a ten minute drive from Byron in holiday traffic at 50kmh, which is ridiculous but anyway... The rooms had a small kitchenette, a sunroom with a single bed and two chairs and small breakfast table. Decor is dated but clean enough. Ready for an update or refurbishment. The pool area is great and secluded. Quite and safe area except morning alarms being snoozed every 15mins!. Beach is close and allows dogs. The smell in the room doesn't really leave even with airing. No laundry near by and $10 a load in Byron. Not much drying space provided either. Walking distance is a general store, chemist, pub and cafe.

Room Tip: Number seven next to pool

A very laid back motel that was within easy reach of the famous Byron Bay beaches and town.
An easy walk across the road and through the trees had you on 7 miles of the south Byron Bay beach within a minute.
Each facility had its own sitting room to relax and enjoy browsing the many good books provided.

This was our third trip to the motel. First of all, if you want a really fancy place or need to be pampered, don't go here. But if you want a clean room,in a motel owned & operated by nice people, close to one of the nicest beaches in the world, at a very reasonable price, the this is the place for you! I can't wait till I can return to the Tallow Beach Motel!

Yes, once again it's all about the only thing a weary traveller really needs, apart from a decent shower. What a shame the mattresses can't talk, I'd love to hear some seventies stories. It was like sleeping (ahem) on a quarry floor. If you can get past that, the rooms are small and dark, but with a vintage hawaii/bali rattan feel, and dated linen, just like your Queensland Nana's sunroom. You can open the wall of louvred glass shutters on a balmy night, if your'e not afraid of any wee bugs. It is really quaint and basic, quiet, no food to be had, not much service, I think the owner was away, or maybe it's just the beachy way. Cutie pool, reasonably clean in a little garden. Car to Byron, but a great newly refurbished pub a few blocks away, great menu. Fantastic beach a few minutes walk. All up, new beds would take this little spot from fair to good, and great value, given the outlandish resort options nearby. And the shower was excellent.

I'm really sorry to read you didnt have a good nights sleep in our little motel, but just to clarify, the mattresses are in fact all new within the last 10 months. Being a sub tropical climate we of course have mozzie screens on all the windows, perhaps you didnt see them. As you said, with some of the rather "outlandish prices" in Byron Bay I feel we provide comfortable 3 star accommodation right at the beach for a very affordable price. I do hope you will stay with us again.

This place is a gem. A quiet hideaway behind the sand dunes of Tallow's Beach. A very affordable alternative to staying somewhere expensive, busy and noisy in town. Rooms are simple but have been refurbished in a cool tropical style.
