First impressions stick unfortunately and the female reception staff were not very welcoming. We should have had a soft drinks mini bar as booked deluxe suite but there was an empty fridge. When we asked about this we were told 'oh we've stopped doing that', no apology or anything. There was also a safe in the wardrobe so we asked reception how we use this and we were told they don't have safes??? We said there was one in the room and they just said 'we'll there shouldn't be'. The room wasn't cleaned by 1pm the 2nd day we were there despite all the vacated ones being made up (even though no one came that day). When we asked they then told us it would be done by 1.30pm - ridiculous!!! The pillows on the bed were very odd and very uncomfortable and on arrival in the room we wrote 'clean me' in the dust on the mirror! The waiting staff in the lounge and Rowan's were very good and helpful and the food good - if a little expensive. Unfortunately the one very helpful receptionist was on duty only on check out and did apologise for the problems and said soft drinks should have been available for us! We won't be returning.

I am an ex-Essex Girl, but when I arrived at the front door of the hotel last weekend I nearly got back in the cab and left! Propping up the front door were a group of lycra-clad females wearing bridezilla t-shirts, black leggings and pink headbands, each with a fag in hand.

I was there for my son's wedding reception - nothing less would have kept me in the place.

One of our group burned themselves on red-hot water in the shower that seemed impossible to turn down. There was a distinct lack of towel rails in the bathroom, which meant towels were just left lying where they fell. The space for the tissue box was broken so that just lay on the side as well.

My son and daughter-in-law had spent a fortune on the reception - into the thousands. On arrival they had a welcome card and a complementary bottle of ...... sparkling water!!!!! Wow, such generosity. They did manage to talk that up to a complementary bottle of prosecco, but 'that's not something we do' was the original response.

The place was distinctly in need of a little care and attention. It's been built for around 20 years now I guess - I remember seeing it being built - and it needs an upgrade.

On the good side:

the drinks prices weren't bad
the towels were beautifully white, soft and fluffy
the staff were great

And they even sent one of the aforementioned Essex girls, who turned up for breakfast in her pyjamas and bathrobe, clutching a containing of milk and a tea bag, back to her bedroom. So it wasn't all bad.

I stayed for 1 night as was working locally, hotel location is great, ample parking available. Rooms are nice and big and not looking too dated. Few quibbles with the cleanliness of the bathroom - didn't fancy a bath with someone else's hair still in it. The mattress had also seen better days - 5 mins sat on the edge doing emails and it had sunk for the rest of the night - wouldn't be great if you had a bad back!! Ate in The Keller Bar as seemed much more lively and informal - food was nicer than expected! Just a bit noisy once the football got going if you wanted to chat. Breakfast was again fine, lots of solo travellers though so we had to be seated together on one big table. Would stay again purely for convenience.

We stayed at the coppid beech hotel from the 7th -9th March for my fiances birthday. I had a superior double room which I paid extra for so I expected a little extra quality..

The room was larger than a standard but the furniture was dated and the jacuzzi bath leaked with the shower.. The fridges in the rooms had been turned off and when we asked the reception they couldn't give us a proper answer..

The rooms were clean but if you were unfortunate enough to get a room next to one of the many hen parties then you wod be able to hear them into the early hours.. Probably not the best place for the older generation!

The food in the lounge bar was pricey for what you got although the breakfast was very acceptable..

The hotel definitely needs a refurb of the rooms to get the it up to the standard of the reception area..

A plus was the bar staff were friendly and reception was help apart from the fridge issue.. I wouldn't stay here again until the rooms have been brought up to the 4 star standard this hotel claims..

Stayed in the Travel Lodge last week and used this hotel in the evening to meet other colleagues etc so decided to stay over this week. At twice the price and star rating I expected quality.
The rooms are spacious and the restaurant and bar good if not over priced.
The Broadband 'speed' however lacks speed at 0.600mb download speeds. My phone couldn't even get a download because as the message said..."speed too slow to download content".

When asking at the front desk about the speed I was told that that was the speed but if I wanted to increase it I would have to pay extra!!!

To top it all a young man came up to the desk with an injured face claiming that he had been assaulted by a guest and his mobile phone had been stolen!!!

TV channels are limited....not the full free digital list but guess what? That's right you can pay for more channels.

As a business hotel this is a real failure

Room Tip: If your going to stay in this area try the Hilton up the road.

We stayed here for one night as there was a group of us on a night out at the hotels bar and night club.

We booked a family room that was advised as sleeping two adults and one child for £99 b&b. The room was massive, split into two, the first room had a lounge area with two chairs and a sofa, the pull out single bed, dining room table with 4 chairs and a tv. The next room (that could be separated by a curtain) contained the double bed, wardrobe and dressing table with mirrors and another tv. We did have a balcony but was 'sealed by maintenance' so was unable to open which was a shame as it was such a lovely weekend.

Bathroom was lovely and the shower switched pressure and the temperature remained constant. Big fluffy towels. Only thing we couldn't find was a shower cap! Hair dryer also in the bathroom but did not use as had our own so cannot comment on the power.

Last note on the room .... The fridges have all had their plugs removed due to people bringing their own booze.

We did use the pool (which was freezing!) There was a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna but did not use these. Towels are provided when you sign in and there robes in your rooms for u to use. However I did not think much to the pool area as it was cold, dark and needed a bit of a refurb.

The bar in the reception area is very expensive, £9.70 for two archers and cranberry juices. The bar food menu is also expensive, £2.5 for a small bowl of fries, burgers were over £12.

Did not get drinks in the kellar bar or apres nightclub apart from bottles of water (two for £3.50).

Band in the kellar bar was good and lots of people had dressed up as the band was a 70s theme. The apres night club also has a good number of seating, biggish dance floor and lots of good music.

Fab over night stay and great time in the club.

Free parking and free wifi. Easy to find off of the M4/A329

Used to use this hotel frequently on business about 10 years, or so, ago, so was pleasantly surprised that the standard of decor and service have been maintained. Comfortable and well-appointed room. The only downside to a good nights sleep was very soft pillows, and a hen party that were not bothered about the noise they made. Would definitely stay here again.
